That honestly looks to me like a trolling attempt, and it worked.  Doesn't mean the writer shouldn't be blasted but that's what he wants.  People that troll don't care what you think, they just want to get a rise out of you.  And I can say that with personal knowledge because I used to troll ALL the time.  I don't believe I ever got that far from center as that guy did but a troll is a troll and it's best to ignore but that never happens which is why we have so many trolls.

The people that thought racism was dead were just kidding themselves and just wanted to believe it. The fact is, racism will NEVER die..........EVER. It's a depressing thought, but we are never going to grow as a species because let's be frank here, most people are stupid, selfish, arrogant, and just downright hateful and those same people will continue to have offsprings. You can't combat stupiditiy and corruption.

Honestly, do you know when I believe racism will end? If/when we discovered extraterrestrial life and have to live on the same planet with them.

My college professor said something that I never thought about but made sense. "White" people really didn't become White until the discovery of non-white race. White people didn't become white people in the US until it was very apparent that despite one person being from Britain and the other Ireland, and the many differences that exist between the British and the Irish, they were still a hell of a lot similar to one another than those Africans over there.

The same thing applies to "Blacks." Prior to interaction with non-blacks, two blacks from even neighboring tribes could not be more different from each other. Well until it became apparent that they too were a hell of a lot more alike than those Europeans over there.

So I truly look forward to the day in the future where we humans will collectively sh*t on our "inferior" intergalactic neighbors. You know because we're are the advanced species and such.

LOL are you kidding?

Just read like a troll attempt to me, but really I couldn't care that much less. Even if it wasn't trolling, some people of all races will be racist until the end of time.  You're not likely to change them so why give them voice?  To prove that there's still racism?  Color me stunned.

Everyone knows racism still exists, even harsh racism like this. The fact that the name was not released of the writer of this letter, is just pointing out the obvious. Hence, taking advantage of an already racially charged media frenzy for the sake of views.

Ah, the old yarn about "well if you just stop talking about racism, surely it will magically disappear!".

This isn't exactly new to the huddle.

So you're telling me that you think a racist person would read this thread and go..."Hey you know maybe I've been wrong all these years.  This thread has really turned me around.  I think I'll stop being racist now."

You're pretty naive if you think any discussion on a message board is going to turn those people around.  It would take some serious counseling and a lot of time to even make a dent into the psyche of someone like that.  Or some serious life experiences.

Did anyone actually suggest that a thread on the internet would end racism or something?

The point is not just to shame these individuals or give them an outlet, but to raise awareness for the fact that this sort of ignorance is still very prevalent in our society so that we can prevent it as much as possible for future generations. Trying to hide it, and act like it isn't there is not going to solve anything. Bring it to the forefront, talk about it. That's the first necessary step.

What gets me is that the racist writer obviously didn't know they were writing to a "non-racist" sports writer. Add 'stupid' to their list of deficiencies.

Just to remove color and begin the removal of boundaries created by the use of skin color as a qualifier, I fixed it for you.

I don't think it's to stop talking about it. I think the method of conversation here is more divisive than it is good. To have a good conversation, one must not attack the other person's character, just their points. The conversations that go on here typically become a "You (fill in the blank) don't know (fill in the blank), why do you (fill in the blank)." It's not constructive and it really negatively impacts an argument that could be had.

Just my .02.
