Construct Your All Time Panthers Dream Team

Hoenheim

Recommended Posts

So I wanted to make a thread that would be a bit of fun and somewhat of a refresher from all this draft talk. If you have the time for it, what would your all time Panther dream team look like? Like who is the best player ever in panther history at a certain position (in your opinion) and put them in your starting lineup. You could even go as to specify what year or period version of the player next to their name seeing that most players had better years than others.

Ive only been a very serious Panther fan since the start of the 2010 season so I admit my knowledge of older panther players (especially from the 90s i would've been a kid in early elementary school in the late 90s). So I want to take this as also maybe somewhat of a learning experience of some of the players from older teams too.

I wont construct a full roster myself but I'd say I could fill in a few slots:

DEFENSE :   Backfield  - SS : ? - FS : ?? CB1 : ? CB 2 : 2015 Josh Norman

                      LBs : LB ? Luke  LB ?

                      Dline : DT1 KK Short , DT2 ? , DE1 Young Julius Peppers , DE 2?

OFFENSE :   QB : 2015 Cam Newton

                      FB : Brad Hoover

                      HB: 2008 Dwill/Stew Double Trouble

                      WR 1 : Prime Steve Smith , WR 2 : ?

                      Oline : C ?,  LT ? , LG  ? , RG ? , RT Jordan Gross

TEs: TE1 Wesely Walls , TE 2 Greg Olsen

I know some of you could probably make a fancy graphic design with all the players in squares or something or diagrams I'm not good enough with computers yet to do that .

* Bonus question, would the all star offense or the all star defense win in a game against eachother?

I'm mostly ok with this. I'd probably put Otah at RT. When he was healthy he was very good. Can't forget Minter at safety. Honestly I'd probably start Coleman or Mitchell at the other safety spot. Would definitely start Kuechly over Mills at MLB. My LBs would probably be Greene, Kuechly, Davis.

My list includes some players (like Otah) that had at least one exceptional season but may have flamed out thereafter, so I'm assuming that such performances could be matched in whatever offense this team would run (e.g. Deangelo is a great fir for a Fox-type offense, but poor for the current scheme). Depth chart for a given position generally goes left to right and I'm not too concerned with sub-positions (e.g. 1-tech vs. 3-tech DTs) or about ending up right at 53.

Whole names of older players also included for the young'ins.

QB: Newton, Delhomme, Steve Beuerlein

RB: Stewart, Williams, Stephen Davis, Deshaun Foster if playing the Falcons (dude ate their lunch year in and year out)

FB: Hoover, Howard Griffith (Griffith is the better runner/receiver, Hoover the slightly better blocker)

WR: Smitty, Moose, Patrick Jeffers, Benjamin, Proehl, Ginn, Mark Carrier

TE: Wesley Walls, Olsen, Shockey

LT: Gross, Todd Steussie (could be Wharton also, but don't want to double-slot players)

LG: Travelle Wharton, Andrew Norwell, Mike Wahle

C: Kalil, Jeff Mitchell

RG: Trai Turner, Kevin Donnalley, Greg Skrepenak (have his autograph on a hat - always thought he was a bit underrated)

RT: Jeff Otah, Chris Terry (not much to choose from here...)

DE: Peppers, Mike Rucker, CJ, Al Wallace, Hardy

DT: Jenkins, Short, Star, Brentson Buckner, Jordan Carstens

OLB: TD, Will Witherspoon, Mark Fields, Kevin Greene

ILB: Kuechly, Beason, Morgan, Sam Mills

CB: Gamble, Norman, Davis, Lucas, Jimmy Hitchcock

SS: Minter, Harris, Chad Cota

FS: Deon Grant, Coleman

K: Kasay

P: Sauerbrun (assuming he didn't get busted for PEDs, in which case Baker gets the nod)

ST generalists: Karl Hankton, Nick Goings, Jarrod Cooper

Returners not named Smitty: Michael Bates (how many other teams get to say an Olympian played for them?), He Hate Me, Marc Jones

DUH! I knew I was missing somebody! Ugh, forgetting Minter is inexcusable.

In cases with the loaded positions I placed them on the "depth chart" based on their longevity or, in Sam's case, significance to the organization. Same thing with TD and Greene, who is a HOFer who had some of his best years here.

This^ is the definitive list. Put me to shame, lol.

No Ted Ginn on return team?

I have Ginn listed as a receiver and didn't double-list anyone, but he'd make a good returner for sure. Michael Bates is hands-down the best KR Carolina's ever had, though that position has been marginalized in today's NFL, and Marc Jones was surprisingly effective his year in Carolina.

Also added an "ST generalists" category since Carolina's had some really good guys who shined on ST over the years, though Cooper should probably carry the same PEDs disclaimer as Sauerbrun. Colin Jones would be my next choice on ST.

    • Oh I'm sure they'll try I'd just be floored of they find a taker.
    • Just look at OTC. It takes like 30 seconds. Also, ESPN just covered this today. As Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel openly mulls a quarterback change late in Tua Tagovailoa's disappointing season, here's the math on where things stand with Tagovailoa and the Dolphins. He has $54 million in fully guaranteed compensation in 2026. That breaks down as a $39 million salary and a $15 million option bonus that needs to be exercised between the first and third days of the 2026 league year in March. Additionally, on the third day of the 2026 league year, $3 million of his $31 million 2027 salary becomes fully guaranteed. So if he's on Miami's roster as of 4 p.m. ET on March 13, the Dolphins will be on the hook for $57 million guaranteed.   If they were to release him prior to that date, they'd still have to pay him the $54 million in 2026 cash and would absorb $99.2 million in dead salary cap charges. (They could spread that out over two years if they designated him a post-June 1 release, but they'd still take $67.4 million in dead money charges on their 2026 cap and the remaining $31.8 million in 2027.) If they were to find a way to trade Tagovailoa before March 13, the acquiring team would become responsible for the $54 million in 2026 salary and bonuses, and the Dolphins' dead-money charge would drop to $45.2 million. If they traded him after March 13, presumably they'd be on the hook for the $15 million option bonus, while the new team would take the $39 million salary; the Dolphins' dead-money charge would be $60.2 million.   None of this is even close to ideal, obviously, as it would leave Miami in a terrible cap situation and also without a quarterback. The Broncos took $80 million in dead-money charges (spread over two years) when they released Russell Wilson in 2024, and they managed to make the playoffs last season and currently hold the 1-seed in the AFC playoff field for this season. So huge dead-money charges don't necessarily kill a team's chances. But one of the reasons it has worked for Denver is it found a first-round QB in Bo Nix who could play right away.   If the Dolphins bench Tagovailoa this week, it'd be for either Zach Wilson or rookie Quinn Ewers, either of whom could theoretically be a 2026 starting option if they show enough in these remaining three weeks. But moving on from Tagovailoa would probably require the Dolphins to be players in that Mac Jones/Kyler Murray/etc. second-chance QB market if they want to compete next year. Not a great spot for whoever their next general manager turns out to be. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47324378/nfl-week-16-buzz-news-updates-fantasy-intel-questions-predictions#trades
