It's a damn shame that the mainstream media (except for Mike Florio/Suzy Kolber)  have no idea that Gettleman is a terriffic interview.

NFLN is always interviewing Dmitroff or Les Snead. They are so boring.

It seems NFLN interviews Jason Garrett every other week!  I mean I get it, it's the Cowboys but damn.

And Garrett talks a lot - but at the same time says nothing. lol

Love me some Gettleman!

Always hanging out for when the team site uploads the full videos because every time I watch his pressers I learn something. It's nice to know others feel the same way and appreciate what we have.

In this video what I specifically got out of it that I wasn't expecting was stuff like this:

  • We will not draft guys who aren't intelligent (can learn our system/schemes) regardless of skill, fit or talent.
  • Our coaches are all guys who can teach rather than just yell and scream and they accept (I think Getts may have drilled them on it) that guys coming from college are going to be fundamentally flawed more often than not.
  • Getts said he doesn't blame college coaches for that, given the 20 hour rule and the fact that snapping the ball every 9 seconds mean they have to be simple.
  • To judge intelligence we use a "HR test" and also try to work out how players ("of this generation") best learn - are they visual, are they "full process guys", are they better on the board, etc. "At the end of the day on Sept. 8th we play and these kids have to be ready to go."

I watched it, did you see how DG rolled his eyes as soon as Joe Person started asking a question. I LOL'd someone should turn it into a .gif

The difference in demeanor when answering a question from Newton and answering one from  guys like Jones or more to the point Voth is HUGE. The presser after rescinding Normans tag which was supposed to be pre-draft talk was the epitome. Getts reads a prepared statement for about 2 minutes, first question is Newton and Getts is like "I just said that. I just said that in so many different ways." Big breath to regain composure and then he restates what he'd already read out.

Later on Bill Voth asks about how much losing the 5th year option would be if we were to trade out of the 1st round and Getts' starts his response with "Wow, that's a good question. It's a big deal Bill..."

And to top it off, in the post round one presser his laughing at Newton's question about drafting any "connahs" before ignoring him and going back to Bill Voth to add to an answer Rivera gave about Butler being raw was just too funny. I had to watch that whole sequence 5 times before I could move on.

Edit: there was this also from the 2013 (I think) draft

    • There are no juggernauts this year. Feels like everyone in the playoffs field is gonna have a puncher's chance. All the best teams still have very obvious flaws.
    • It does vary, and depends on their health and other factors. I mean you really can’t look at the schedule in August and know what you will be facing mid season or even early Any time because stuff happens. It is any given Sunday relative to that. Early this year, KC was beatable. Will they be in December? And we don’t know if they’ll be motivated, or out of it. One team, that is likely a different team in 10 weeks. That’s an example what I mean.  Far as “decent” we know who the good teams are. We could hit a good team on a bad day, and we could have a really good one. It happens. All I’m saying. And I don’t expect it not to, for random teams. That’s about it. Predicting wins is an imperfect pastime.
    • To the folks the last couple years who were boosting up Josh Allen and shitting on Cam Newton. This one goes out to you.
