The USGA showed its ass yesterday on the Johnson ruling and everything that went with it.

The second the ball moved Johnson stepped away and called the ref over. The ref asked if he grounded his club behind or otherwise addressed the ball. Johnson said, "No." That should have been the end of the story. Golf is promoted to be a game of integrity where players call penalties on themselves. In this case, waiting 6 holes before someone decides they are more important than the players on TV decides to tell Johnson, "We're going to review this after the round."

Glad he won by 4 shots, or 3 or whatever the USGA decided....

Everyone wants to talk about Johnson's balls moving...  I am just pissed off they gave him two club links that let him actually place his ball in the shorter grass...  Such a BS abuse of the rules....  He was a hundred yards away from the "obstruction" and he still had to hit right over it !!

It's a line of sight issue, not necessarily an obstruction in the sense it effects the direct path or flight of the ball. He could not see the flag from where he took his stance due to a man-made and placed object. His ball could have landed in the middle of that fairway and been on a perfect lie and he still would have gotten relief if he couldn't see the flag. Doesn't matter where the ball is, if your line of sight, swing or ball flight is obstructed because of a man-made, temporary immovable object, you get relief.

Doesnt make me like the rule....  He suffered nothing for a shitty tee shot....

Anybodyhome is correct... the rules of golf are often overly penal so I don't mind when players use them to their advantage.

I don't think DJ caused the ball to move, so I think they were incorrect, but it's made glaringly bad by the fact that they didn't issue the ruling immediately instead of waiting until after play was concluded, that made ZERO sense and is bad for the game.  They are lucky that he pulled away so far that their stupidity didn't matter.
