Windhorst: Marvin Williams worth 17-18M per

Brian Windhorst was just on Rusillo and Kannell, and when asked what's the craziest numbers he's heard, he said don't hold him to it, but from what he's heard Ryan Anderson is looking at 20M per.  He then said Marvin is being duscussed at 17-18M per.  He was then said Bazemore...  Rusillo said, "thats who we were waiting for!  15 Million?"  Windhorst said he thought he was a little low.  They all bust out laughing, and he says "16-17 per."

I knew some of the numbers would be bad with the cap increase, but yeesh...  and as much as i appreciate Marv, no thanks...

He's definitely not worth 18 million, although that may be his market value.

I wouldn't pay him over that early bird rights "max" of $12.25 million. Definitely don't want to have to clear cap space to sign Marvin to a $17-18 million deal. Maybe we can offer him a longer contract (not ideal) over a shorter contract with more money per year.

Do we really need another power forward when we have Zeller and Kaminsky. I know Zeller is listed as a Center but in the NBA he should be a power forward. If the Hornets want to continue developing their young bigs they should avoid Marvin Williams and use that money on a Center.

Kaminsky and Zeller are pretty ambiguous players and it becomes a challenge when defending.

Kaminsky, offensively, is more of the stretch 4 (or at least in the process). Defensively he doesn't have the athleticism to guard the 4 consistently and still a work in process down low. Cody, on the other hand, is more versatile. He does better down low on both ends.

I think we forget how good Marvin is as a defender. One reason why I wouldn't mind him back at $12.25 million

Marvin laid back and did nothing in his first year of his contract with us and when the contract year rolled around he magically started balling. I would not trust signing him.

I'm not sure players think that. I don't think it's that straight forward.

Not saying I'd throw $18 million at him (would only use his EBR "max") but I think he continues where he left off last year.

Though I disagree about him as a player and about what he would do once he was signed I will say that 10 million would be fair for him per year. Nothing more. That is more than his current deal is.

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
