Panther fan attendance sucked at the GA Dome!

Where was everyone? Last year there were thousands of Panthers fans at the Georgia Dome, this year.. maybe a few hundred.. the turn out was pathetic! If we can't travel a few hours South on 85 we're a pathetic fan base. We should have taken over the Dome like we have in the past.. instead we were quiet, many of our fans left EARLY (I'm talking 3rd quarter) and in general we did nothing in the way of supporting OUR team. I guess all of the local Panther fans flipped to be Falcons fans.

Probably didn't want to go after getting blown out in the playoffs, going 0-4 in the pre-season, and getting raped by the Eagles.

I have gone every year for the last 8 years. If people don't think we will win, they don't show up. We don't have the large die hard fan base of some other teams(cowboys, steelers, bears). It would be the same for Atlanta if they weren't playing well. This year you will see a lot more Falcon fans and BOA than last year. Its just human nature I guess..............

I'm not buying that at all.. not with the number of people that went to the Eagles/Panthers game in week 1. We have a bunch of bandwagon fans, we think the Falcons fans are bad.. we need to look at ourselves. I was embarrassed by how well the Falcons fans watched the game yesterday at the Dome, we as fans don't know when to shut up or when to be loud when we're at BOA. All I know is I'm no longer giving Falcons fans anymore crap, they have a great team and fans.. we just need to rebuild.

I was there. I'd guess that there were probably 1,500 panthers fans. It wasn't a good turnout. I figured that some of those who already had tickets went to the game. Some of those with tickets sold them online and didn't want to make the trip after the eagles game. Couple that with the fact that some of the Panthers fans in Atanta probably didn't feel like going to scalp tickets after an embarrassing loss. I was expecting to get a lot of poo from the atlanta fans, but it wasn't bad at all.

1,500 is being generous.. but I agree the Atlanta fans are class acts.. I only ran into a couple morons, you'd expect that, even at BOA. Not all NFL fans are all there after a few beers. :P

    • He is a great guy but a horrible reporter. He makes my skin crawl when I hear his name. I heard that babies cry and dogs attack him when he enters a room. Other than that he is a good dude. Now go burn in hades u sum bit.
    • The job just really passed him by. He came up when basically you just needed to get three or four quotes, toss a couple of team provided stats in there, and stretch it out to column length. you got your copy in by 330, out the door by 4, then chill/shmooze the rest of the day. If you were really good you got a book deal. Every now and then you got to write an editorial. The goal of the profession was like Peter King where ostensibly you’re a beat writer for whomever but you get paid to just shoot the poo. now it’s a 24 hour job, you’ve gotta be social media savvy, the pace has increased substantially, you’re expected to produce more than ever, you gotta be able to look through bullshit etc. there’s still risk of industry capture where you just become a mouth piece. Sheena Quick is obviously shameless. I don’t think Newton ever aspired to be more than an inoffensive beat writer, but even that relatively simple role was just more than he was cut out for. its even worse when you’re covering a team that expects the Fourth Estate to act as a PR extension, or considers them on par with buying Twitter bots to promote Bryce. there were over thirty papers that covered the panthers first training camp. In that environment there’s room for boring guys like newton, and they may even be incentivized to push the boundary a little. But today that just isn’t the case and most of the guys are hanging on until retirement (person, gantt) or they’re good and gonna be matched up like Jordan. im not defending the current state of sports journalism, just saying that what counts as a meat and potatoes beat writer passed newton by. He’s retiring well past his sell by date, but that’s pretty common for his generation in general.
