It's bigger than Xs and Os and/or personnel

The title says it all. In the opener we were a late missed FG away from beating the defending champs at home despite them treating Cam's skull like a piñata with no repercussions. That Broncos team is now 4-0 and we had them dead to rights.

The next week, we came out and best the 49ers fairly easily. Yeah, we let them back in it late, but Rivera teams seek to do that more often than not.

Then, we followed that up with a very strong start against the Vikings. We were absolutely dominant early in that game, then something happened. The offense fell apart after the first two drives and the defense followed suit after halftime.

Then... yesterday. It was like a continuation of the 2nd half of the Vikings game, only worse. Igo warned us before the game that the team looked off during warmups and not their usual selves.

What happened? This team looks utterly lost and disinterested out there on both sides of the ball. Is it the unrest in Charlotte? That very well may be a factor, but based on our very strong start against the Vikings when the unrest was at it's peak, I don't think it's the primary issue. That team was focused and ready to go to start that game.

Honestly, this looks like a team that has quit on it's coaching staff. Thoughts?

On the offensive side, of course it starts with Cam. Cam does look like (and I'm guessing here) he trusts his line or his coaching which is making him second guess and not trust himself.

On the defense, our secondary just isn't good right now.

So maybe yes, maybe some have given up on the coaching and management and it's a lack of solid talent. I think it's more of not trusting the coaching.

My issue is the attitude on the field and the fact that we are getting worse week after week. We were a late missed FG from beating the 4-0 defending champs at home in week one. The D was absolutely dominant in the first half last week against the Vikings.

It isn't that the young secondary just got beat yesterday. It happens, especially with an elite WR like Julio Jones. The issue is that on many of their deep balls, there wasn't a white jersey even in the frame. He was running down the field wide ass open.

I can't buy that the unrest in Charlotte plays into this at all.

These guys are professionals.  They're taught to play/coach through anything.

Heck, Rivera's house burned down and they kept going.

Agreed. Like I said, we came out dominant early on against the Vikings when the unrest was at it's peak. What happened during the course of that game that caused the wheels to just fall off?

    • I’m really having a hard time understanding how this actually went down. -Renfrow expected to make roster as 2nd/3rd string. -Panthers cut Renfrow; Keep Brycen Tremayne, and add UDFA receiver (Dalevon Campbell) to active roster.  -Canales/Morgan say it’s totally up to Hunter whether he wants to come back or not, they would love to have him.    -Renfrow not signed to PS -Panthers trade Adam Thielen -Hunter Renfrow signed to active roster with a raise after an injury to Coker nobody heard about and is likely to start.    Our WR room is now: -Xavier Legette (2024 1st round pick) -Tet McMillan (2025 1st round pick) -Hunter Renfrow (1 year out of the league) -David Moore (Canales’ friend? A guy way past his prime) -Jimmy Horn (Likely a Shi Smith reprint, but has potential 2025 6th round pick, weighs 174 lbs) -Brycen Tremayne (2023 UDFA who was on Washington’s PS for 2 years and caught 1 pass for -2 yards and averaged 300 yards per year at Stanford) -Dalevon Campbell (2025 UDFA had a good preseason but had 1463 yards and 3 TDs over 5 college seasons at 3 different schools). What the hell is going on?
    • Not uncommon for week 1 games. Especially against good defenses. It’s why I prefer my team play these small schools week 1 if they are going to play them. Gives the offense time to get calibrated.
