That play was due to a lack of pass rush. It was an unscripted, back yard play of throw and catch. Cooks is a speed demon and would have burned 80% of the CBs in the NFL given that same scenario.

This defense has always been predicated on getting pressure with the front 4. Lost our best pass rusher to domestic abuse and never made a strong effort to replace him. And as CJ gets older, we've slowly lost our 2nd best pass rusher with no real effort to replace him.

Our coaches can't find ways to manufacture pressure - mostly because the secondary has to be coddled or they'll give up big plays.

We'll get the highest draft pick we've had in the Cam Newton era. Need a pass rush specialist or a dominating LT.

Stop it with this generic non-response. The pass rush has generated pressure at the exact same rate as last year. The pressure today was on point. The pressure on the play in question was there.

Trying to argue that a massive field flipping catch is "just the norm" makes you look like an apologetic chump.

Running up field whenever your QB is in trouble is taught day 1 at WR school at your grade school tryouts. Literally any decent CB reacts to this instinctively. Thompson was flummoxed because Thompson is a LB who isn't accustomed to covering slot WRs. Thompson was playing because there was nobody else.

There was nobody else because Dave Gettleman is an egotistical, blame shifting man-child who doesn't like it when people he wants to push around start pushing back.

The Panthers have two once in a generation players on offense and defense on both sides of the ball and proceed to surround them with a makeshift FA Oline and a bunch of rookie DB's that got in two divisional games against Saints and Falcons gave up a 1,000 yards passing and damn near 100 points. Good job, I guess.

So arguing there is no pass rush, and the coaches can't blitz like they want because of the lack of secondary talent, makes me a generic apologetic chump.

But you arguing there is a lack of coverage because there is no talent in the secondary  makes you "something else"?

Bro, don't argue for the sake of arguing.

When you're spewing fallacies/cliches like "pass rush is what matters" in an effort to twist what happened on the field in protection of the man whose fault it is to shoulder the blame, then you're being an apologetic chump.

The team is statically generating pressure at the exact same rate they were last year, probably better after today.

Pass rush wasn't the issue. The issue is bad players in the secondary. The issue is the man who put them there because he wanted to save money and grind an axe about how large and in charge he is.

The three hardest positions to play in the NFL are QB, OT,  and CB.  When I heard that Norman was getting kicked, I was like wtf...

I don't agree that this team is getting as much pressure as last season - which is saying alot. Maybe they are, but it sure doesn't seem like it.

Did you read my post? I agree the secondary lacks talent. But on that play, someone should have been breathing down Brees' neck with all the time he had to throw the ball.

So who do you think from last season other than maybe JNo  would have kept up with Cooks on that play? How many CBs in the NFL can run with Cooks on a broken play like that with no help over the top?

It doesn't matter what you believe, the numbers were laid out on this forum at least twice last week.

"Breathing down Brees' neck" you mean like maybe forcing to him to scramble to his non-throwing side and launching off a pass off balance?

Norman being on the field means a CB would've been on Cooks, which means the rote simplicity of defensing the play would have statistically been an incompletion and a Carolina Panthers victory.

You are really over the top with this, Growl. And it's just not that serious to me.

Tell me this and I'm done. If this team has a top 5 pick, would you draft a DE or a CB?
