The most frustrating part to me

What did we do to deserve all the poor officiating this year ?

Some have suggested it is because of Cam calling out Ed Huckuli last year, as a liar ..

Not just us.  I mean look at the last play of the Atl game.

They need full time refs and adopt the Belichick challenge model

Here is how I see it. There is pretty much a penalty on every single play. The refs decide which teams get more leeway than others. Some teams get them called on em more frequently, and a select few teams (Seahawks, Pats, etc.) get by with a lot of penalties that otherwise would be called on 80% of the other teams. Refs are controlling games now more than ever. Between the constant addition of rules and judgement, it has become unwatchable. I have tried to watch a few other games besides the Panthers, and it is just boring as fug because every other play is a penalty where ref crews gather around for minutes before making a call. The NFL product is just all-around bad right now and it is past it's prime. College football, on the other hand, has been an absolute blast. I've gotten into it more this year than I ever have.

To be honest I was shocked we got the 2 Pass interference calls should have been 3,

The non offsetting penalty for the Saints got but we didn't in week 1 (And don't give me the crap about it's because our offsetting was Intentional Grounding, if the hit Cam took didn't effect the pass how did Cam make the pass to Dickson.)

Brees get a Roughing the Passer for a low hit, a short time later Cam gets hit the exact same way... Pick up the Flag on that one.

It's come to be expected every call that can be used against Carolina will be.

The hit on Cam was way worse too, the guy intentionally went low of him, our guy(think is was love?) Had a saints player on him dragging him down causing him to hit Brees low, completely unintentional. I hate saying the NFL is rigged or the refs are against certain teams but poo like that makes it really hard to think any other way.

We're a bad team with a lot of flaws. Refs ain't got nothing to do with 1-5.

While I do agree the Panthers are not playing as good as they did last year, the Refs are influencing the games.

I'm not sure which quarter it was but on the Saint's TD where 2 receivers ended up in the same area in the middle of the field I felt there should have been a Pick called as one receiver took out 2 defenders. I remember Olsen being called for that in a game last year.

Also the first Pass Interference that wasn't called the defender just stopped in front of Funchess, There's no way of knowing if he would have caught that touchdown but he wasn't given the chance.... That's why I couldn't believe we got the other 2.

To be honest, the more I watch the NFL the more I do think it's rigged, if not it sure is poorly ran! I mean you have the man in charge of Officiating who is a former Standup Comedian and never refereed a game in his life.

    • Tanking in the NFL isn’t really a thing and anybody wanting to bring the rigged lottery to the NFL has an ulterior motive.
    • I understand where you're coming from, but we need another safety IMHO. Other positions, especially on defense, dont have ideal depth, but to me at least S is the one position we can't stand pat at even when thinking about the future
    • 100%. Nick Scott was awful last year. Like, even for a franchise that hasn't historically invested in that position, it stood out for how awful it was. If he sees meaningful snaps at S again we're cooked.  Maybe he has value for ST, but I certainly hope we can upgrade. Jordan Fuller, who was by all accounts an Evero guy, was almost as bad. Xavier Woods was bad, but not complete garbage. Still did not want him back. Those 3 guys seriously may have been the worst S group in the NFL. And they all were brought in, especially Fuller, as good fits for this system. Everyone knocks the defensive line, and they deserve a lot of blame, too, but so, so many times our safeties inability to tackle let 4-5 yard runs turn into 10+. And it happened over and over and over again if you watch the film. Honestly, Demani Richardson was the only S by the end of the year I remember making positive plays. I have no issue with Richardson being in the mix and/or competing to be a starter, but we still need another S desperately IMHO who has actually played meaningful snaps in the NFL. The only caveat/excuse for our secondary was the fact our pass rush was nonexistent for large stretches last year. Maybe that helps with coverage, but I dont see how that makes any of these guys better at tackling.  I know it somewhat feels like piling on at this point, but I feel 100% confident in saying this was the worst tackling team in franchise history. The 70ish yard pass play we gave up to Jamarr Chase where he ran through and past everyone in the secondary has to be up there in terms of most embarrassing plays I've ever seen. I can't imagine how embarrassed Kuechly must have been watching from the booth... I think bringing back Evero was a mistake, but for a team that has had nothing but change over the past 5 years, I'm willing to see this through. I definitely think we added significantly to the floor of this defense with the additions we made. I dont think Evero has any further excuses if he cant field a unit that can at least somewhat hold their own. Fixing the safety play is going to be a big part of that.
