I agree. I would gladly accept a couple of bad seasons for a Super Bowl win.

Weedle would have been a great and he has ties to Ron. But the panthers were not working with a ton of cap if you include the tag.

Weddle signed at Baltimore for an average of $6.5M over 4 years. It was front loaded, but I'm sure we could have afforded him if we wanted him.

Just keeping Norman makes it a hell of a lot easier on both Bene and Bradberry. With Norman, we at least have one side of the field locked up while Bradberry is learning from him.

And again, we're going to have to pay other players as well. Not just Cam and Luke. Both KK and Turner are going to want some big money. I hope Gettleman doesn't employ his same hardball tactics with them.

This Right Here to the 10th power.

That's how you build for the future, having rookies come in an learn behind vets or seasoned players, throwing later round rookies and practice squad players into starting position is Browns like. Luke benefited from learning from
Beason, I'm sure the same will be said for Shaq and Big Vern. But our secondary guys are screwed besides bradberry, they never should have been put in the position they are in.

The guy took his money and sat on a bench for like 3 years

now he wants to armchair GM when the only reason he has an estate is because a shitty GM pissed millions of dollars away on him

I could kind of begin approaching an understanding of your point if we were talking about Deangelo Williams or Steve Smith. But Beason has really said little to nothing bad or negative about the org ever since we moved on from him, certainly nothing in the way of what Williams or Smith have said.

I like Gettleman, I support him as our GM the same I do our players. But this sort of bizarre level of worship where we have to joke about Beason blowing out his knee just to prop up Gettleman because we're 1-5, and Jon had the nerve to state the obvious (we didn't have a good offseason, it's not for debate) that we all can see for ourselves is just really sad, and desperate.

If this team pays Weddle what he's looking for, there is no way he doesn't come here. With Keek and Norman and Davis, Weddle could have been on a historic defense with a real chance to win a super bowl.

My thought was Norman and Weddle to make the defense very dangerous, or

Russell and Fleener to make the offense unstoppable, or

Move things around and get a combination of these options.

I just believe that if you're close to a super bowl, then you go all out. Even if it's only one year, you go all out.

A super bowl or two is definitely worth 4 or 5 seasons of 6-7 wins.

Agree with this. We made it to the super bowl last year with a 15-1 record. You go all out for this season, and we could've done that while not mortgaging the future.

I read that it takes a young CB a good 2-4 years before they come into their own. It took Norman that. You need atleast one really good CB come playoff time, so realistically, it might be another 2-4 years before we've got a secondary that's ready for playoff/super bowl football. Even more reason Josh should have been tagged and you keep trying to get a long term deal done. We groomed and built him, only to watch him become a shutdown corner and go play for someone else. We had a secondary that was ready for playoff/super bowl football. This was the year to go all in.

Right, I gotcha now.

My thought was if we let Norman go, then we go all in on offense with Okung first and then another receiving threat at TE like Fleener. This team has been looking for a #2 TE for some time.

By the time the tag was lifted the top guys in Free Agency were gone. In hindsight if Gettleman doesn't tag Norman at all his vision in regards to free agency could have been different.

Think about it to remove the tag off a all pro cb meant that both sides were too far gone.

This, some aren't realizing DG is getting close to,if he's not already,to putting his foot in his mouth, a lot of things he's stated in press conferences he's either not done or doing things he said he wouldn't......

He's said he doesn't draft for need; he drafts 3 corners. He said he doesn't want to be a player development squad for rest of NFL; he cuts Bene and let's JNo walk without getting anything in return. He said he doesn't panic; he trades a 4th for a punter instead of being patient. He talks about sustained success; he sits on his laurels and let's a SB contending roster devolve due to retirements, stubbornness, and what seems to be a hangover from playing deep into the post season. He even admitted he started draft evaluations late because of our SB run. That's embarrassing. You can't sit there and get fat and happy which is what he did and that's my biggest gripe.

Agree. So once you tag Norman, then you're all in. You plan for that, and bring in other pieces with the assumption that Josh is playing under the tag. Reaching a long term would be great, but if not you at least have him for a year. You don't change the plan at the last minute when all of your options are gone. That just wasn't smart, and was probably ego driven. It made no sense at all.

Maybe then you draft young guys to develop over the year without as much pressure to perform so early. Also bringing in a guy like Weddle would have really helped their development. Or at least covered a lot of their mistakes.

No argument here I  thought Josh would be here for at least one more year.

I agree with the Weedle solution as well. If Coleman is moving to SS anyway Weedle does makes sense..

All of us bitch and complain just like everybody else.  But, when it comes from you, it means something.  Well said.

Same here I don't know the direction for this team, we're constantly told one thing but are shown another.
