...might be a pretty easy process, should Al Holcomb indeed follow Sean McDermott to Buffalo.

Two former Rivera colleagues, both of whom have a solid resumé as linebacker coaches and defensive coordinators, are expected to be available.

John Pagano was the defensive coordinator on the recently dismissed Mike McCoy's Charger staff. Pagano was linebacker coach under Rivera in San Diego and took over as DC once Rivera got the Panthers job.

The more likely choice in my opinion? Recent San Diego LB Coach Bob Babich. Babich and Rivera go way back to his days as Bears DC. There was a little bit of an issue with Lovie Smith given that Smith wanted Babich as his DC but was pressured by the Bears to hire Rivera instead. Smith later replaced Rivera with Babich by letting Rivera's contract expire without discussing an extension.

That situation aside, there doesn't really appear to be any direct enmity between Rivera and Babich. This is evidenced by the fact that Rivera tried to hire Babich a few years ago. Babich, however, got a better offer.

Of those two, I'd expect Babich, but either way, we've got a good shot of getting a great LB coach.

Neglected to mention Pagano is the brother of Colts HC Chuck Pagano.

Also noteworthy, Babich has significantly more experience.

      Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?

      I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
