Everyone's Best Friend Scott Fowler Thinks It's Time To Bench Delhomme

It amazes me that someone like Scott Fowler, who knows nothing about football, has a job writing about football. But, then again, none of the other writers who cover the Panthers know anything about football either. If you ever meet Scott Fowler or any of those other clowns, ask them what a 21 personnel grouping is and how that compares to a 10 personnel grouping.

If McCown were healthy, benching Jake might be a plausible alternative. With Moore and Feely, you are acting out of emotion more so than rational thought. Consider the following:

1. Philly - Jake sucked.

2. Atlanta - 4th down with pressure. Not a lot of options. Desperation. I would rather have someone throw the ball than take a sack.

3. Dallas interception 1. Lobbed it up there. Bad throw.

4. Dallas interception 2. Smith cut the route off.

Logically, since the Philly game, Jake the individual has not been any worse than the rest of the team. Benching him, with no viable alternatives is not the answer. It might give some fans and media an emotional jolt but it does nothing to increase the teams chances of winning. Later in the season, when/if there is no chance of this team making the playoffs, it would make sense to make the move. Until then, the best course of action is to suck it up.

I believe it is something like 4 teams have made the playoffs after starting 0-3. Last time the Panthers started 0-3, they finished 4-12 so in that case, I see no problem with seeing if Matt Moore is going to be the next franchise QB. I love Jake, but obviously, the surgery has taken a shot or two out of his arm. Short to mid range passes are pretty good and on target, but the long ball is getting way too much air under it. At this point, Fox should just tell everyone that their job is not safe.

Listen I agree if we were 1-2 or 2-1 there is no way we bench jake because we still have a chance. But at 0-3 only 5 teams in league history have made the playoffs. And I can say with confidence (I have not looked this up) those 5 teams weren't rank near the bottom of every major statistical ranking. The truth is IMO the season is over. We have Moore who in his only 3 starts looked very good and brought a spark to this team they hadn't had since Jake went down. Why not see what you've got? If he can't preform what have you lost as the season is pretty much over. The fact is this Coaching Staff must see something in this kid otherwise he would have been cut.

    • Apparently the extension he signed before the season was also a little weird, as it had a very low signing bonus. So the Jets have a very small dead cap hit despite trading a big contract that was signed just 2 months ago. I guess it was only a $13 million signing bonus, and trading him mid-season means it's something around only a $10 million dead cap hit left to take. This is a huge win for the Jets for a player I've long felt was overrated because of a great nickname and an amazing rookie season that he's then failed to fully live up to since them.  Combine that with everyone knowing the Colts seem more mirage then legit long term contender, that 2027 1st in particular could end up being a really good asset for the Jets.
    • Steichen has the offense operating at a super high efficiency with JT/Pittman/Warren/Downs.  The OL is strong. The D - the front 7 has been sneaky good.  They don't instill much fear but do enough.  Buckner is stil playing at a high level.  It's a good system on both sides of the ball.  Blue chip players now at every position group.   Overall, the NFL is wide open right now. Seahawks, Colts, Patriots, Rams, & Bills are at the top of the mid-season hill - which is just wild Lions, Bucs, Broncos, Chargers* are in contention/okay spots (LAC is losing guys left and right though) Chiefs, Philly still linger, you can never discount. Steelers, 49ers are around as always.
