For those of you who are instinctive "need" (mock) drafters

And most of us are, whether we say so or not (i.e. we all instinctively want to "fill the holes" on our team), the NFL Network has 5 "needs" listed on their Carolina team draft board.

With the first 4 picks, 4 of those "needs" have been filled.

OL? check

DL? check

RB? check

WR? check

The only "need" remaining (according to NFL.com) is TE.  I would be happy with a developmental TE (will the injured Jake Butt be there in the 5th round?).

Many will disagree, but I would also be beyond thrilled if Arizona State kicker Zane Gonzalez was there in the 5th round and we picked him.

I could probably be a little happier with this draft so far, but it would just be minor quibbling.  I think we've nailed this draft in our first 4 picks.

Harper is missed.

I see what you're saying.

I'm positive they think that Mike Adams is going to provide what was missing after Harper was released though.

And with Coleman moved back to his more natural position, Adams inserted into the lineup, and Boston/Jones/Marlowe in reserve, I think they're comfortable with the safeties for this year.  Do they still need a fresh talent upgrade at the position?  Of course.  But you only get 7 (or less considering previous trades, or more if you're the New England Patriots) draft picks, and sometimes you can't "fix" every position in one draft.

But there are still a number of safeties available that might be available in the 5th or 6th rounds (Eddie Jackson from Bama, Jadar Johnson from Clemson, Josh Harvey-Clemons from Louisville) but the Panthers didn't have visits or workouts with any of them, so I'm almost convinced we're gonna stand pat there for at least one more year.

Daddy would ship over a 6th for CP.

CP's cap number for 2017 is $2.7M.

Not so sure at this point we could fit that into the cap and I'm also not so sure he's anywhere worth that kind of hit.  Kid has been absolutely UN-productive for 3 years now.

Daddy rescinds his trade offer.

Ha!  I see what you want to do and respect your opinion.

I would just rather take a randon swing at a developmental safety in the lower rounds than CP at this point.  Even though he didn't visit or workout, you gotta think DG and the coaches would be halfway familiar with Jadar Johnson from Clemson, right?  Wouldn't be a damn thing wrong with picking him in the 6th as far as I'm concerned.

Saw a mock this morning that has us taking Jadar in the 5th. Wouldn't be mad.

Yeah, 5th is right in his wheelhouse too.

I just really want Zane Gonzalez.  :P

Great minds think alike. However I see us taking and ILB at some point. It's a DG thing.

Mike Adams.  Pro Bowl in 2015 & 2016.

But yes, I'd be happy with a young safety to groom behind him.

Also would be happy with a young TE.

I'm aware we signed Adams. 36 year old stop gap. Thinking long term darling. ;)
