I don't understand what they're doing here. If the guy is unhappy and likely to cause lockerroom issues and you've already tried to trade him and found no takers, just cut him already. It's the best thing for both parties.

I'd still give our 6th for their 7th next year and Pryor.  Considering they'll be picking at the beginning of every round and us at the end, he'd be a cheap one year tryout in that scenario.  Then we can either extend him or let him go and work for us in the comp formula.

I feel like the Jets are hoping someone will offer something for him in a trade, but that obviously isn't going to happen now that the draft has passed. It does seem like he will get released, and I agree I don't see anything to be gained by prolonging the inevitable.

Doubt the Panthers bring anyone in until after training camp starts. Seems like they really want to give Marlowe and Blechen a chance to prove themselves before we look at anyone else.

If he doesn't want to be a back up for the Jets why would he come here to be a back up?

You're right, we should have taken Adams at 8.  Oh wait...

The reasons are many.  Who's to say he'd be a backup?  Golden opportunity to at a minimum stake a claim for 2018 and beyond.  He'd be out of New York, back in the south, with the best front 7 in football in front of him, and on a Super Bowl contender.

I just dont see him as the type to come here, sit behind someone for a season, and then hope to start next season. And I do not think he fits in with our locker room. He is seen as an underacheiver, and is said to have a bad attitude.

Maybe because one of our starting safeties is damn near old enough to collect social security and might break a hip in training camp?

Exaggeration doesn't help the argument.

Matt Kalil was an underachiever too. This regime liked Pryor before the 2014 draft.

Maybe underacheiver was not the right word. Jets fans are basically saying good riddance. Liking someone prior to the draft does not mean that you still like them after they suck.

    • I think you mean relevant but they have been fine, the problem is the lack of in game adjustments.  He has also been just decent at recruiting.  Duke having tons of success hurts and just fine isn’t good enough at UNC.
    • I don't see it as drafting a premium player to sit and wait if Walker gets hurt. We need a legitimate swing T. Unless you have a Sewell or Slater type tackle that is pretty much a sure thing, these guys can need some time to develop year 1 just like a QB ideally should. They all haven't played the elite 5 star talent on the edge. If we think another franchise tackle has dropped to us at 19, you have to pull the trigger. The position is just too damn hard to find. If it's just a "we need a tackle and this guy has a T on the board", yeah, move on, take one in the later rounds. But if that guy is there, let him back up and learn a year, then slide him into LT on year 2 of his rookie deal.  I don't see us being able to offer Walker a multi year contract after a prove it year, pay Moton his final almost fully guaranteed year, Hunt, Lewis a center and do a 50-60m extension for Bryce. The 3 most important positions on the field are QB, blindside tackle (usually LT), and edge rusher. Those are the premium positions that cost the most and are hardest to come by. If a starting caliber talent is there at 19 you have to pull the trigger.  I understand the need for a DT and S. I've been on the C and FS train for years. If we weren't staring at a potential Bryce extension, it'd make the decision a lot easier I think. It's just with all these huge contracts I don't see how we can hedge our bets on being able or even wanting to re-sign Walker, especially if he has a bad year. Icky and BC's injuries really hurt our long term plans.  If no blue chip talent at those 3 key positions are available at 19, by all means pass and draft another position. But I think it's pretty safe to say we don't have a guaranteed lock at any of them right now beyond Phillips, and they have to be somewhat of a priority.
    • Not completely accurate. I'm sure Roy is lobbying for him and Larry Brown has spoke put in support too. But Hansbrough has made comments pretty critical and hinting at a need for change. Joel Berry has gone a step further and said the standard has not been met. Scott Williams who was a teammate of Hubert's at Carolina has gone all the way and said it's time for a change at head coach.
