2018 OL

Last year had a solid interior OL class at the top but at OT was projected worse in years.  2018 looks like it could be much better.

Interior:  really look ok on the interior unless we grab a center for a aging Kalil.  At Guard, we hope we can resign Norwell.  If not Moton and Williams bith have the abikity to play OG and should have the ability to slide in.  But prospects to watch

Mason Cole- dont know to much about the center class, but Harbaugh always produces very solid OL.  Was starting LT in 2014-2015.

Quenton Nelson- was projected a first rounder and top interior OL this year but decided to return to school. Big physical athletic kid who absolutly dominated last year.

Tyrone Crowder- best fit at RG, projected by some as a 2nd round guy this past year but decided to return.  Some feel he is to short at 6'2.5 but thats the same height as Trai Turner.  At 340 he is a anchor.  Clemson has arguably the top 2 interior DL in the whole country so Crowder gets good practice weekly.

Billy Price- solid run blocker,  was a solid opening holes even back when Zeke was a buckeyes.  Considered coming out last year but decided to return towork on his pass blocking.  Following in Pat Elfein shoes who was a splid run blocking OG who came back to improve pass blocking but slid to Center.  Price also projecting to slide to center.  Elfein moved ip to the top center in this draft, see if Price can do the same.

OT: unknown what Kalil will do and what the RTs Williams/Moton will do.

Connor Williams-projected top 10.  great athlete with plenty of power.  Williams is shooting up the boards.  Finished up a very strong 2016 season being named first team AA.  Kid also is a power mauling run blocker which you dont see often from LTs.

Mike McGlinchey- wouldve been the top OT in the 2017 draft hands down.  Slid over to LT last year and looked just as solid there as he has from the RT.

Martinas Rankins- had a very strong 2016 season.  Great run blocker but at the same time a solid pass blocker.  Has all the tools to be a franchise LT.

Mitch Hyatt- starter a LT since a freshman and has done a solid job blocking for Watson and Gallman.  Young player all the tools.

Martez Ivey- comparison DJ Humphries.  kid was a very highly ranked recruit.  Has been a solid OG for Florida but moving to LT this season, one of the top athletes as far as OL in this draft.

Orlando Brown- son of former NFL OT.  HUGE kid at 6'8 360.  Best suited at RT.

Could this be the draft where we finally draft Ryan Kalils replacement? He is getting to the age where he could retire any year and hes probably at the point where his age is catching up to him.

I would say we draft a OT but I believe Moton will be a good RT. We have Daryl Williams who could end up starting this year at RT over Moton which basically gives us two decent RT.

Matt Kalil is the real question mark. If he can stay healthy I honestly believe he can be one of the best LT in the NFL. He made the pro bowl his rookie year but never was able to reproduce that kind of success again. I honestly believe this is because of his injuries limited him. He stays healthy then we will have our answer at LT and probably won't need to draft one. If he fails the. LT will probably be our #1 need.

    • https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/versatile-2nd-db-named-panthers-154026075.html Smith-Wade's ability to play corner, nickel and safety makes him valuable to a young defense trying to rebuild after finishing last in the NFL a year ago. "Chau took advantage of an opportunity,'' coach Dave Canales said. "He made tackles. He had an opportunity on an interception, and he made it.'' Our defense has got to come alive for us to have a chance of winning our Division!
    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.
