A quick look at pre-season points totals

I know it's ONLY preseason, so any kind of standings mean VERY little.  But given that there's not too much else to talk about, I thought I'd take a quick glance at points scored on offense and allowed by defense around the league.

Surprise surprise, Panthers are second in terms of points scored per game (Arizona & Dallas both have played a 4th game, so Panthers are ahead of them..)

Not too shabby for an offense that has been without Cam for all but 1 series, with DA looking pretty terrible, with lots of new moving pieces to fit in, with a new LT, with Ryan Kalil not playing much at all...

No surprise, we're leading the league in rushing:

 

On the defensive side of things, the points allowed aren't so encouraging.  We've allowed the 5th most points:

 

A lot of our points allowed, can of course be explained by turnovers.  We're near the bottom of the league with a -3 turnover ratio in our 3 preseason games:

 

Anything strike others as significant stats / factoids from this preseason so far?

Oh WOW, here's a stat Ron has to be LOVING!

We lead the league in terms of fewest penalty yards, and are near the top in terms of fewest penalties.

Last year we totalled nearly 270 penalty yards in 4 preseason games, so nearly 70 yards per game.  This season we're averaging half that.  Good to see.

I do like the penalty stats because that's something that should carry over. I'm not so sure about the other stuff.

Agree the point totals mean very little, but I do think we're moving the ball better than last season when we only averaged 20 points per game in the pre-season.. (we were tied for 11th in the league in terms of points per game)

In 2015, we were 4th in the league in terms of points per game during the preseason...

So, I don't think the big picture tendencies are totally worthless to look at.

I love the stuff you post @KB_fan. I find it very interesting. However, I don't think points allowed or scored mean much in the preseason

The defensive stats I would expect to improve after the start of the regular season and having our starters out there the entire time as opposed to just 1 to 2 quarters.

we need to stop the bleeding on defense.

absolutely cannot carry over into the regular season.

i don't care what kyle shannahan has on his roster. that guy makes me nervous. i don't want to get burned starting out of the gate by his cast of no name players.

i think it is likely that we will go back to having one of the highest scoring offenses in the league once things open up. no doubt we'll continue to be the top rushing team.
