What Beason really said

The Panthers will never win as long as Jake is the QB NEVER!!!!!

Since you are are mainly a Pep fan and feel that way about Jake you will be even madder if you listen to the Beason interview. He said something like when they watch film they can see Jake is doing the right, veteran things.

I see your guys' points about it's coming from a teammate and not a coach and how that may not be anything against the staff.

It's obviously something that teammates have talked about among themselves because otherwise why would a teammate (who Beason did NOT name...interestingly enough even while it was obvious he was talking about Pep with his comments about the guy he was going to have a talk with) call him and he would say "I told him DON'T EVEN SAY IT... I KNOW" or something to that effect about what the guys was going to say about watching that game/Allen.

No doubt, anyone who isn't legally blind can see that Peppers is leaps and bounds more talented than Allen. You know every player on that team understands how much better Peppers can be and how much that would help the defense as a whole. My buddies who play(and have played) college and semi-pro ball all talk about teammates and how if they played to their potential, the team would be better. It probably happens everywhere.

Beason is an outspoken guy and has obviously gained the respect of the veterans, I hope he can get Pep to flip that light on.

Uh.....so the coaching staff edits the tape before they give it to the players?

It's far, far worse when you are the highest paid player in the NFL and you need to be talked to like this. JMO.

No I don't think they edit the tape. I think that as with anything else, there's stuff we as fans won't ever see or know because we DON'T watch the tape or see practice.

It's not Pep's fault he's the highest paid player in the league. You can hang that one on Hurney.

I'm sure that there is plenty of info that we aren't exposed to, however some of Jake's mistakes are pretty clear with or without extraneous information.

It isn't his fault they franchised him and he is the highest paid player. But he was going to get paid a bunch somewhere. He has a responsibility to his team to try his best. He has already been paid a bunch in Carolina. When a guy has a "C" on his chest is in basically a contract year and his teammates are questioning his effort, that's a big deal IMO. I'm not one who expects him to make ridiculous plays every down or every game and know that no one is "worth" 17 mill regardless. I don't think the fact that Allen whirls around like a dervish and got 4.5 sacks against a bad OL makes him a more talented player than Pep. I understand that guys are going to have off days or bad matchups sometimes and that's just football. I just expect him to make plays he should make more often than not, dominate inferior opponents more often than not (Allen dominated an inferior opponent, but was ALSO aided by the fact they didn't give much help to the LT until late which was strange), and and make some game changing plays. Haven't seen much of that lately regardless of opponent.

IMO, QBs' screw ups are magnified at times unfairly because of the nature of the position and the level of fan dissatisfaction with the QB. One could say the same for Romo or Campbell or anyone else who is "on the hotseat".

Well Peppers isn't a high motor OR high motivation guy, so I am not too surprised he isn't playing better. I mean, he really doesn't want to be here. That's where I didn't buy into the "contract year" argument that some had for him doing much better this season. This was never about a money grab, hasn't been from day one. After all, the team offered to make him the highest paid defensive player in the league, and he turned it down. He just really and truly doesn't want to be here, so why would he play hard? Which makes it all the more puzzling that management wanted to keep him.

Romo, Campbell and Delhomme are essentially different versions of the same below average to average NFL starting QB. The main difference is that Romo and Campbell are young and so the assumption is made that they will improve(which they probably will not). Of the three, Jake is clearly the worst however. Mainly due to age and extremely reduced decision making skills. I don't blame him for every mistake but I certainly blame him for the ducks he throws when under pressure rather than simply taking a sack.

Well not so much playing for a contract, I was wrong to say it that way. I should have said since he has made it clear he wants out, how does he think he will get out if he doesn't put it on tape? No one else he may want to go to will have him, I wouldn't think.

Oh I agree that he is to blame for those. I think he did take the sacks vs. Dall instead of doing those. I was glad to see that. I don't think his decision making or throwing has been bad the past two games (other than that ridiculous play in Atlanta that was VERY luckily not a bad result).

Damn, I don't know how Jake gets brought into a Peppers thread, but at least Jake tries his damndest to win and it eats him up inside when he lets his teammates down. If Peppers had his attitude to go along with his physical advantages, he would be, by far, the best DE in the league.

How? The Pep fan brought him up as a non sequitur to stick up for Pep as she frequently has in the past.

The tone of what Beason said sounded pretty nonplussed I thought. He didn't sound like he was talking out of anger or anything else. He sounded matter of fact. Perhaps he is confident enough that enough teammates feel as he does that it won't affect the team that he said it on the radio.

This is so true. But what happens when you have loads of talent is you get complacent. That is what Pep is right now. As of now who cares if we piss him off he is playing his worst so its def worth a shot. The problem with Peppers is he is lazy. Its as simple as that. He has more talent then anyone on the team but his work ethic is just sad.

Yeah, I know why the guy brought up Jake, but it still irks me because there is not a player on this team that tries harder than Jake and he is not even the main problem anyway, IMO.

Anyway, I hope Beason knows what he's doing, because this could backfire just like it did when JR called Peppers out and challenged him to be a leader a couple of years ago.

I finally listened to it this am and the part he said about Pep respecting it more from him than from the coaching staff made me go... "Hmmmmm".

He told the team's internist he didn't have respect for a coach or two almost two seaons ago. That fact, along with the Jenkins saga and coaches leaving in droves this off-season really makes you wonder.

    • Man.... you all have been ruined by Rhule and Fitt.  Take a moment to look back at areas where we improved and try to grasp on a glimmer of hope and optimism....   Week 1: Sept. 8 at New Orleans  (L) 0-1 I think, all things being equal, we split our divisional opponents.  The Saints are not scary, are not coached well, and are going to get old all at once.  However, being in the Superdome for the first game of the year I lean in to homefield advantage causing us to have a few careless mistakes at the wrong time.  Close game, 27-24 Saints  Week 2: Sept 15 vs. Los Angeles Chargers (W) 1-1 The Chargers have lots of work to do.  This game comes down to one main factor; can we stop the run.  I think our defense, at least at the beginning of the season will be firing on all cylinders.  Close game again, but this time we get the W 24 - 18 Panthers Week 3: Sept 22 at Las Vegas  (W) 2-1 I am a HUGE Gardner Minshew fan, but I don't believe the Raiders are much better than we are.  So long as we don't get beat up by their tight ends all game, I think we should be the better team if we pound the rock.  W - 24-21 Panthers Week 4: Sept. 29 vs. Cincinnati  (L) 2-2 This is going to be a reality check.  We feel good being over .500 for the first time since I can remember.  They are just better.  L - 31-21 Bengals Week 5: Oct. 6 at Chicago (W) 3-2 This is a PRIDE game.  We want it more. W - 24 - 15 Panthers Week 6: Oct. 13 vs. Atlanta (W) 4- 2 This is our turn to get a home W in our division.  Flacons are either going to be pretty good, or a huge bust.  Either way I think they will be susceptible for an upset here and there.  We weren't too far off from beating them last year.   W 27 - 24 Panthers Week 7: Oct. 20 at Washington  (W) 5 - 2  Their defense is good, Offense is a work in progress.... Sound familiar?  This will be bowling shoe ugly but I think we run it better than they do.  W 17 - 12 Panthers Week 8: Oct. 27 at Denver (L) 5-3 If this was at home I would choose us, but I don't see us winning at Mile High.  I will stick with the copy and past analysis on this one.  LSS - we cannot escape our cure of Sean Peyton. L 24 - 18 Broncos Week 9: Nov. 3 vs. New Orleans (W) 6 - 3 Home game, bad team, we win.  W - 27 - 24 Panthers Week 10: Nov. 10 vs. N.Y. Giants (Munich, Germany) (W) 7 - 3 The Giants have an improved pass rush and a rookie WR.  That is their strength.  I think we will be better prepared.  W - Panthers 27 - 21 Week 11: Nov. 17 BYE Week 12: Nov. 24 vs. Kansas City (L) 7 - 4 We'll get crushed, and hit the downward trajectory of our season starting now....  L Chiefs - 34 - 21 Week 13: Dec. 1 vs. Tampa Bay (L) 7 - 5 We are licking our wounds from the KC game and it shows up in the box score.  L - Bucs 24 - 15 Week 14: Dec 8 at Philadelphia (L) 7- 6 I think we give them a game, but come up short in the end.  L - Eagles 32 - 24 Week 15: Dec: 15 vs. Dallas (L) 7 - 7 I want to pick an upset here.  No Dan Quinn, Lots of pressure for Dallas, they have been really healthy for a long time.  But common sense prevails, they are better.  L - Cowboys 24 - 21 Week 16: Dec. 22 vs. Arizona (W) 8 - 7 Get right game, but a tough one.  We need this one to calm the huddle down.  W - Panthers 28 - 24 Week 17: Dec. 29 at Tampa Bay (W) 9 - 7 TB is right where we are.  This is our 50/50 spilt  W - 22 - 25 Week 18: Jan. 4 or 5 at Atlanta (L) 9 - 8 Falcons win the division.  We show improvement from much better coaching and offensive line play.  The Huddle is calms down, but like always is not happy. Full League Prediction: Prepare the poop emojis!!!!!
    • The problem that Bryce faces is his lack of prototypical tools.  He's not the tall, strong armed mobile QB that tends to get drafted first overall.  His game is not played in underwear on a practice field.  His best asset are his intangibles.  They aren't sexy like a cannon arm or a fast 40 yard dash. OK, so we took the lesser athlete.  Bryce put up a pretty bad season with a bad team around him.  The coaching staff, for all it's platitudes, sucked.  They made sure Bryce could run a huddle, but didn't help him get better as a player.  Bad choice. Compare that to what other teams did to their Rookies:  they put them in position to succeed with better personnel and better play calling.  Sure, there are physical differences which are going to affect the outcomes, but you can't change it. Am I trying to ride to the defense of Bryce?  Only a little.  He's my favorite team's QB, and I believe in him.  Now, he's got this year to show that he's "the No. 1 for a reason" (Thanks CJ Stroud).  Will he, won't he?  I don't know at all.  That's on the D&D crew to put Bryce is position to play well.  Running the ball is going to make things a lot easier for Bryce.  Does that discount his success if he plays well?  For some of y'all it will.  Some of y'all just don't like Bryce, like he stole you DoorDash or something. Regardless, let's see what happens in 2024.  If Bryce stinks it up, then we're going back to the QB well again.
    • we may think we know, but we don't know. we won't know what effect upgrades on the OL, coaching staff, and WR room will have. we don't know what scheme canales is going to put together. we don't know a lot of things.  that's why we play the games...to see what shakes out. plenty of reasons to think Bryce is limited this year...again. Plenty of reasons to see an improvement in his play.
