Frank Reich

Mr. Scot

Reich might have had a better chance if Gettleman were still in charge.  They were together in Buffalo some years back.

As it stands. I have zero expectations that either Rivera or Hurney will be displaced anytime soon.  Hell, I'm not even willing to bet on Shula getting canned.

I don't care for Rivera's overly conservative approach, but I honestly do believe that a better OC would make a world of a difference.

I wasn't the world's biggest Rob Chudzinski fan, but I do have to admit he might have been better suited to coach Newton.

Shula's style is basically "let's try not to make any mistakes, while Chud was more "f--k it, let's go for it all!"

My only issue with Chud is that I thought it was pretty clear that he was coaching for himself and not the team. He wanted to be seen as the innovator and the catalyst behind our offensive success.

Then again, I think that's largely true with Shula as well, it's just that he doesn't have the mental chops to pull it off.

Chudzinski's dream job was to be head coach of the Cleveland Browns. He got the job, and in true Browns fashion was dumped after one season.

Does he still aspire to be a head coach? Don't know.

The guy was a bit of an egomaniac. Anyone who thought they could succeed in NFL coaching where Bill Belichick failed has to be a bit of an egomaniac.

Thinking you can succeed in Cleveland requires...a certain mindset.

Other thoughts on Reich?

So, anyone else going to weigh in on this? Or just these two?

Yeah, were are 4-2, but hey, let's pretend. I am a Panther fan, and I just don't like how we play. I see other teams doing well, and I demand my team do so as well.

I demand that my expectations be met. I will not settle for less. I deserve wins, and I will not settle for less. I mean, who cares that wins in the NFL are difficult. I want wins, and I am going to rant and rave, until they happen.

I mean, who cares that Dan Marino never won a SB, or Barry Sanders. That plenty of good, to great teams never won a SB. I am not those folks. I deserve this. And I am going to show my azz until it happens.

Such is life in the instant gratification world.

Come on, Hub.

It's not like Rivera is still new and getting his feet wet. We know what we have in him. Ditto Shula. And Hurney? Please.

Making changes at head coach, GM or both hardly counts as instant gratification. We're talking about at least a two or three year process of transition, and probably not an easy one. Throw in that our roster right now, while good, is also kind of old. There'll be some changes needed there too.

I have no Illusions about things instantly and magically getting better. I know it'll be a rebuild, and a rough one.

That said, I'll take that happily over another three to five years of beating our heads against the wall with what we have now, and it's not even a difficult choice.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
