Right now I would say Kareem Hunt, LOL.  Or Marcus Lattimore.  Hindsight is 50/50 (thanks Cam), ya know?  But yeah, there has been a ton of players better than CMC that are Rookies right now.  Can't say Fournette, because he was picked before us (even though he's clearly been better, and would be better for this team).

Kareem Hunt wasn't a 1st round pick. 3rd round. What my point is that we can't say CMC is average for where he was drafted when he is outplaying the rest of the rookie talent on offense. His stats are on par for a normal successful rookie year, his on the field play is vet like. The kid just understands the game. You cant take that away fro him.

Doesn't matter if Kareem Hunt was a 3rd round pick or not.  He's been amazing.  And yes, he's been average at best for all the touches he has received.  That's great that he understands the game, that he loves life, and that he is a cool dude.  But, he's been an average player AT BEST (so far).  Simple as that.

it does matter because my question to was what first round player has played better than CMC? Not to discredit your reading like you did to mine. Listen man, the bottom line is this.... you are alone or at most with electro's horse in this argument. TBH alone or with electro's horse are both sad places to be.

We as Panther fans believe that CMC was worth it. He has done more than you can ask for a rookie.

I’ve never said that he’s godawful btw

just that he was a dumb pick for the offense, wasn’t worth the draft position, and that his defenders will tie themselves into knots justifying his selection.

Which hey continues to be right!

three best offensive performances of the year have barely involved him. Sure that’s just a coincidence though.

I mean, UNC said he hasn't been good either.  I'm just logical man, and many other First Rounders and other round Draft picks have been better.

Here, I'll name all the First Round Rookies for you that have been better or had more of an impact on both sides of the ball, so far.

DeShaun Watson (Rookie of the Year before he got hurt), Jamal Adams, Marshon Lattimore, Fournette (clearly), and lastly, TJ Watt.  McCaffrey has been average, and that's okay.  But, he's not even in the running for  Rookie of the Year right now.  All have been better than CMC.  Regardless, as long as we keep winning, I don't really care how he does.

only 2 of those are offensive players. 1 is a qb (which we dont need) So... what I am understanding, even if we include defense..... CMC was the 6th best player taken in the first round at pick #8? Interesting.......

Also, vegas odds as of this morning has CMC as third in ROTY. So he is trending up if people are beginning to gamble on him right?

    • Doubling tripling and quadrupling down on this subject in defense of the pick is reminiscent of a certain mindset that has overtaken the political world. This conversation will become less contentious and dragged out to the point of becoming a dead beaten horse if rational minds can simply agree that we made a mistake missed on a potential franchise center and we will learn from it. All this coping is unnecessary.
    • Here in lies the rub that the supporting posters continue to ignore. He wasn’t a 2nd round pick in the 2025 class, especially with an ACL tear. It was a dumb pick for any GM who looks ahead to determine values. C and CB were much better values than an injured RB in 2024. If a RB isn’t even playing much in 2024, you have to compare him to 2025. We’re beating a dead horse but only because the defense of the pick is almost comical at this point. We’ve made a ton of poo picks and moves/non trades while Morgan was GM and the assistant GM. It happens, we don’t have to jump through hoops to act like we just had some really bad luck. The 2025 draft class is unknown so far but damn it felt way better afterwards for the first time in a long time. Embrace the potential and stop stamping guaranteed on the box of poo of the 2018-2024 drafts. We are were we aware because of them and 2025 has to hit so we can get past the 7 win max in 7 year hurdle. Also, “flashed his talent” isn’t 9 carries for 22 yards. His one reception for 18 yards isn’t a flash with 11 other touches for 27 yards. He hasn’t proven anything. We have no idea if he’ll contribute in 2026.
    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
