Martin vs. Munnerlyn

Give him time for goodness sake, just because we have a 7th rounder playing in front of him does not mean he is going to be a bust. Fact is, only a rare handful of rookies get playing time in their first year other than on special teams.

Look at it more to how well Munnerlyn has played to beat out the vets, which before TC were a lock for the nickel.

Might as well call Fiammata, Robinson a bust.

I believe he's been injured.. So naturally, he will be "invisible".. Science has spoken up to this issue saying that it has to do with not being on the field. But continue to bash... Seems no one needs facts here lately anyhow. :)

Sorry to interrupt, carry on.

wasn't he on the sideline and in full pads and activated on Sunday?

Even if he was, which I didn't notice but not to say he wasn't, him being injured will have set him back... on top of that, he's a rookie. Munnerlyn is the exception, not the rule... Since Munnerlyn has been so efficient, I'm not going to use that as evidence Martin sucks.

Maybe he does, maybe he'll be a complete bust. But the official word won't come anytime soon. If it does, it's way premature..

    • He has attempted 8 shootout goals in his NHL career and made 1. He is among our worst SO guys on the entire roster in terms of career stats.
    • Against Miami, the Panthers were behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter facing a 4th - 5. Young completed a 21 yard pass and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced a 4th - 5 and again, he completed a 17 yard pass and they went onto score a TD for the win. He also accounted for 2 of the 3 TD's.  As I said, he got them in that mess and no doubt, Rico gets credit as well, but missing on either of those 4th down conversions hands the ball over and results in 1 or 2 less TD's giving them a loss. As you said though, that's just a small quibble. The real question is how does the FO see it?  I am guessing they see it as something to build on. I think most peope here see it as a total loss and fully expect the FO to see it that way as well. Time will tell.
    • Kochetkov is just too streaky. TBD if Freddie is doing that too. Freddie is the more reliable goalie over his career. The Bussi kid looks like he could be a solid #2 eventually.  Just need to figure out the #1 guy. Same as almost every year. It's not talent, it's consistency and being able to step up in the playoffs.
