Shrine Game Update

Untouchable

A quick look at some later round prospects that could fit in here in Carolina (Bryan Cox Jr found here last season)....

DaeSean Hamilton, WR, Penn State

Used primarily in the slot at Penn State, he has good hand and route running making him great in contested catch situations.  Would be in the mold of Cotchery when he was here that is a chain mover as a big receiver in the slot.  Generating a lot of buzz during the Shrine practices.

Chad Thomas, DE, Miami

Has the make up of a Panthers DE.  Big, long, productive and athletic.  Can reduce inside on 3rd downs.  Questions about his motivation for football because he is a strong up and coming rapper and producer in the Miami area known as “Major Nine”.

Malik Reaves, CB, Villanova

Deatrick Nichols, CB, USF

Reaves is a prospect who has had a great career at Nova.  Has good length and cover skills to compete on the outside as well as in the nickel.  Will need seasoning though.  Nichols would be a nickel corner only but has been a standout on the Bulls for a couple seasons now.

Greg Senat, OT, Wagner

Zach Crabtree, OT, OK State

Jamar McCloster, OT, Syracuse

All three are athletic long developmental prospects for the tackle position that fit Carolina’s physical profile for tackles.  Crabtree is the least likely but these three are all most likely practice squad stores for seasoning.  Senat needs to hit the weight room for a couple years.  McCloster was a basketball player up until a couple years ago, and could use technique refinement.

Foley Fatukasi, DT, UConn

Played out of position at the nose for UConn but has had solid production at under in past seasons.  Fits the physical profile as big, long and athletic.  Carolina could need a developmental pick if Star leaves.

Riley Ferguson, QB, Memphis

Needs weight, needs to work on technique but his arm is good enough and has plus athleticism.  NC native could be a developmental QB behind Cam picked up after the draft.

Intriguing prospects like Marcell Frazier, Justin Lawler, Coleman Shelton (C for Washington) and Cam Serigne all had poor length and will likely get knocked on our draft board becuase of it.  Chase Edmonds the RB out of Fordham has has a very good two years there and is doing very well at the Shrine practices but will likely not be valued here because of his poor blocking and skill set is too close to McCaffery.

Known Meetings/Interviews...

David Wells, TE, SD State (6053, 252 lbs, 31.75" arms, 9.5" hands, 76.75" wing) - powerful blocking TE and has done extremely well in that aspect at the practices.

Deadrin Senat, DT, USF (6001, 322 lbs, 32.375" arms, 9.5" hands, 77" wing) - Potential Star replacement, length and height not typical of Panther linemen (think, Ravens NT Brandon Williams build-wise) but seen as a possible day 2 prospect and played very well for USF at the nose.  Able to generate pressure through double teams. Dominating in practices.

Daurice Fountain, WR, Northern Iowa (6015, 210 lbs, 34.5" arms, 9.5" hands, 79" wing) - Had a very good 3rd day of practice.  Was "getting alot of buzz from 2 NFC South scouts" during practice, interviewed by team after practice.  Strong at contested catches and has some good quicks to him too as a decorated hurdler at NIU and in high school.

DaeSean Hamilton, WR, Penn State (See above) - Should probably be assumed for all teams.  He's been exceptional throughout all the practices; beating corners ever which way and at will.  Really belongs at the Senior Bowl and not the Shrine Game.

Fountain is explosive.  Since he's a sprinter too I'll be shocked if he doesn't run in the 4.4s...
