Would probably be more aggressive in approach and urgency to win than we are used to.  Doesn't strike me as the type to let sentimentality handcuff his goals.

A guy who's used to the Steeler way of doing things?  Yeah.

That also means he's used to his team regularly being in the postseason, and not just appearing in Super Bowls.

Breer talks about the NFL "grooming" and "vetting" him to be a full blown NFL owner via his partial stake in the Steelers.  Given that the NFL sort of has Richardson by the balls, it'd seem if they want him to get the team, it's probably gonna happen.

I like this guy and is polar opposite of JR. Hope it's him that buys the team. Here is a vid of him being interviewed on CNBC

The statement "it has to be mutually beneficial for your partner to do a good deal" stood out to me.  Seems to be a no nonsense type of businessman, but understands the need for compromise and both sides feeling like they got a win for a deal to work.  It could have huge ramifications in the upcoming CBA negotiations.

That's what I'm thinking.  Technically, JR can sell to whomever he wants, but the reality is that he needs the league to approve that sale.  So, if the owners really want a particular guy to be the new owner, then it will most likely happen.

I actually wonder if the "fix" has been in on this whole process.  I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but if he truly has been groomed, then there is a likelihood that the league was planning on sliding him into the next ownership opportunity that came along.  And the fact that it is one with as many pieces in place as the Panthers have is probably icing on the cake for him.

That's all plausible.

Gotta say if I'm working in the Panthers front office right now, I'm probably polishing my resume'. This doesn't sound like one of those cases where someone buys a business then says "Don't worry, folks.  I'm not lookin to shake things up."

If Tepper is the guy I’m all for it especially coming from the Steelers. Attempting to look through his eyes he probably sees a franchise similarly built to the Steelers as well. Big franchise QB check. (Usually) Solid defense check. A franchise that actively wants to run the football (but struggled largely in part to the predictable Shula) check. All we’re lacking is a true number one WR1....I love Funchess but personally view him as a high end WR2. Hopefully he sees this need and demand that we finally address it.

And I’m not worried about him moving the team. Could he and is it possible? Absolutely....but remember he’s a businessman. North Carolina is one of the fastest growing states and when the Panthers are winning with marketable Cam, Luke and CMC business is booming both on and off the field. Sign me up for Tepper.

Which could potentially factor in to the NFL wanting him to own the Panthers.

Agree.  I also don't think he would be running the day to day operations (after all, he does have a day job).  Rather, he would bring in a corporate ace to get the business things running the way he wants.  So, this good ole boy system that has been permeating the organization since it's inception would likely go away.

I think he would also bring in high level football people to run that side of things since I don't see him as the type of hands-on owner JR was.  So he would want people with a clear and focused vision for the team rather than a bunch of yes men whose job it is to do his bidding.

The Steelers have three guys that'd be potential options for the GM position.

There's Omar Khan, who's basically Kevin Colbert's second in command right now.  He's interviewed for GM jobs before and is considered highly knowledgable, but he's more of a cap manager than a personnel guy, so maybe assistant GM would work better (assuming you could pry him away from the Steelers for that).  He's considered one of the best cap managers and salary negotiators in the league.

Then there's Phil Kreidler, their college scouting chief.  He's probably the better choice in a personnel focused position but he's not as well known as Khan.  I'm not sure he's had any GM interviews yet though.

Number three: Pro personnel guy Brandon Hunt.  The Eagles interviewed him for a high personnel job, but not GM.  He'd probably be a good pickup, but might not be ready to run the whole show yet.

Wouldn't surprise me if we stole one, maybe even two of those guys and potentially some people from the business side of the operation too.

Granted, depending on the time frame, we're probably talking about next year rather than this one.

Tepper keeps a brass replica of a pair of testicles in a prominent spot on his desk, a present from former employees. He rubs the gift for luck during the trading day to get a laugh out of colleagues

Yeah, I think that alone might win him some fans here.

Kinda think, given the way Jerry Richardson is exiting the building though, the NFL might prefer he leave those at home.

I just know that I want a guy with an eye for talent.  It's great to listen to your scouts and use them as a resource, but I want a GM that can identify talent in his own right.  I believe that greatly improves a team's ability to consistently bring in quality players.  Kreidler might be good, but has he ever negotiated contracts?  If not, then he might be best paired with an experienced negotiator (doubt we'd be able to pry Khan away with anything less than the full GM gig).

We still have Rob Rogers, right?  Him paired with Kreidler might be a good fit.  I really do like the idea of bringing in someone with a Steelers pedigree.  They've seen how a well-run organization operates, and would likely bring a similar vision with them.

Yeah, Rogers is still here.

Kreidler can take credit for getting both Le'Veon Bell and Juju Smith-Schuster in the second round. That's a pretty good argument for his "eye for talent".
