Big difference in cut players attitudes

George Iloka, Kevin Zeitler, Kenny Britt and Kevin Minter were all considered top free agents.  In addition, the Bengals re-signed a few of their own in Dre Kirkpatrick and Adam Jones.

Now I'm sure you'll say "none of those guys were any good" but the NFL disagreed.

Wait .. Are you talking about players they have drafted and resigned or players they signed in FA from other teams?? Because Top Dawg  was talking about players coming from other places signing with them right??

You know how I feel about Gettleman's team building, and his inability to get the job done when we were so close,  so I'll spare everyone the repeat.  Suffice it to say that he doesn't believe in windows, but apparently believes in holes...

As for guys going to Cleveland and Cincy, I didn't say they weren't good,  but they obviously didn't have a driving desire to win a championship,  or even simply be a part of a good organization.  Some people will sell their souls for the almighty dollar regardless. Some people don't mind dumpster fires,  but most do.

Well that's great.  That means we have a chance to sign some guys here.

The Bengals are notoriously cheap.  The Chargers treat their players terribly.  And the Browns are the Browns.

But yeah, Gettleman must be worse than all of those guys put together, right?

(or maybe you're just wrong)

I think these guys expected not to be back with the team ..that's a big difference

Or they're just professionals.

Funny how folks ignore that Charles Johnson was cut by Gettleman too, and not only did he re-sign for a cheaper deal here, he actually helped recruit others.

But yeah, everybody hated the GM and nobody wanted to sign here :eyeroll:

Beason, Gross and Andeson were professional as well .. So are TD and Olsen... They all felt disrespected by Gman's tatics..

And Again can you explain why this much vitriol by players towards a GM hasn't really happened before??

There have always been tough negotiation and asshole GM's. But this much hate for one GM hasn't been seen before imo.. Are you saying these guys are just the most unprofessional plAyers in NFL history??

Vitriol between cut players and management has never happened before...yeah :eyeroll:

Now granted, there's more social media these days.  Imagine, for example, if Keyshawn Johnson had a Twitter account sooner.

(he was a guy that handled being cut really well too)

He had a Espn job he could have been shitted on Hurney.. And Smitty and Beason did theirs over the radio.. No I'm sorry I haven't seen a GM catch that much hate over all media by former players as Gman did.. Again if he had better results and not takin step backs every other year.. He still be here and this wouldn't be a issue..

Funny,  I don't remember saying that in this thread.

Are you suggesting that GMs and coaches don't  develop reputations, positive or negative, that can affect their ability to sign free agents?

Are you saying that Gettleman wasn't basically scoffed at by several players upon his firing,  at least one of which is well regarded as being a class act, one which was tops at his game at the time, and another who is a future HOFer? Are you denying that there was seemingly more tension than usual between some more men of high character in the building when Gettleman was GM here?

Surely you aren't suggesting that.

Now you can believe what you want,  or spin it however you want,  but to say that these types of things don't have an effect in the minds of potential free agents is either just utterly ignorant,  dumb,  naive,  or just plain silly (your favorite word).

    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
    • It was always a matter of time with Cam’s playing style and a shorter shelf life than passers that protect themselves. I suppose Cam could have still been playing in 2028 ten years after the hit took place, but he would need to have evolved as a quarterback and become more of a passer than the dual threat maestro he was. It’s sad because it makes us think of what could have been, but I do feel it was always a matter of time until all the hits took their toll.
