More receiving yards in less years. I understand Dickson has been a 2 forever, but look at Olsen before Carolina.

Ya, but on how many more targets?  Dude is so inefficient, drops everything.  I'd say the only thing that Ebron has over Dickson is more opportunity.

Ed Dickson - 297 targets
Eric Ebron - 290 targets

Again, Ebron has been given more of an offensive role. Might be saying a lot about Ebron, or could say a lot about Ed Dickson.

Sure:

Ebron has more receptions and more yards than Ed Dickson has in half the seasons and almost 1/3 games played.

Ed Dickson - 124 Games Played - 178 Rec - 1,985 Yards - 12 TD (Avg Position Rank last 3 Seasons #42)
Eric Ebron - 56 Games Played - 186 Rec - 2,070 yards - 11 TD (Avg Position Rank last 3 Seasons #13)

Ebron has shown more usage and is more of an offensive target whereas Dickson is a great blocker.

OK, let's try it this way:

In 8 seasons, Dickson has roughly the same exact stats as Ebron does in 4 seasons on roughly the same amount of targets.  Ebron with 290 and Dickson with 298.

More opportunity or a better pass catcher?

Well, ya.  Obviously Ebron was given more opportunity to prove he's basically Ed Dickson as a pass catcher, but who is trash at the rest of what a TE is supposed to do.

It probably says more about their employers/coaching staffs than anything else.  Also that Ebron was given more opportunity b/c of where he was drafted.  Either way, I don't see a case to say that Ebron is a better pass catcher than Dickson when their stats are literally identical.

I'd definitely be interested, but also definitely only on a "prove it" type deal. But, I'm sure another needier team with more cap room would likely offer him a better contract as well as an opportunity to compete for a starting position.

It'd be nice, but even if we're interested there are probably going to be better opportunities for him elsewhere.

You're looking at targets/receptions and making the assumption it makes them equal but throwing the fact out that Dickson couldn't get on the field as a #1 which is why it took Ebron almost 2/3 less the time to accumulate the same numbers.

You're basically saying anyone who reaches X receptions or yards, regardless of how long it took to get there, are equals to anyone with similar stats.

Eric Ebron was billed as the next Jimmy Graham due to his basketball qualities whereas Dickson is a prototypical TE. Different type of player regardless of numbers.

Production isnt the same as expectation. You can also expect Ebron to have a better career going forward, given his age, compared to Dickson.

So.  Much.  Fail.

Yes, looking at someone's overall stats is a good way to compare two players.  You were saying that Ebron is a better pass catcher than Dickson.  That was proven false b/c in a vacuum they literally have the same stats.  There's nothing in the stats that say he's better.  Nothing.

What basketball qualities does Ebron possess?  He didn't play in college and his wikipedia doesn't mention HS ball, so I'm going to assume you have no idea what you're talking about there either.  Here are their two combines:

Can you tell who was supposed to be the next Jimmy Graham and who's Ed Dickson?  Me neither.

Lastly, Ebron is 24 and seems to be on his way out of the league considering he's already been dumped by a team who invested a 1st round pick into him.  Who knows if he'll be out before Dickson hangs up his cleats?  How can you say that Ebron will have a better career than Dickson?  Where are the facts?

Maybe you could provide some reasoning behind this or maybe even spell our player's name correctly.....

Played 70 less games (mostly due to injury)...has 100 yards more receiving. Faster, better hands...what else do you want ot know?

    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
    • Canes are so fascinating. Despite inconsistent defense and poor goalie play they keep winning.
    • I like Morgan's approach but I'll wait for a few winning seasons before giving too much praise.
