Wide Receivers we face in 2018

Isaac

Recommended Posts

So, as we begin our sofa Coaching seasons, lets take a look at the upcoming top Wide Outs we (most likely) have to play against in 2018

Mike Evans x2

Julio x2

Michael Thomas x2

Antonio Brown

Jarvis/Gordon

A.J. Green

Odell

Alshon

Not to beat a dead horse, but I would say if Ron and Hurndog 2.0 don't seek out players to bolster a weak secondary, we have settled for a losing/almost good mentality.

Hit me with your best takes.

I am not sure I am willing to decide how our season is going to unfold yet. I may wait until the draft is over before making the decision to jump off the ledge, or not. But that may just be me.

Also, I am willing to bet that Rivera, who is probably as competitive as you can be, and whose livelihood depends on him being successful. Is going to just settle for a "Losing/almost good" mentality. But again, that could just be me.

Just let that fear of the past go. Pretend you have a pen. Now take that pen out of your pocket, and hold it out in front of you. Now... let it go. Poof, there goes your fear. The past is meant to be learned from, not to be feared.

Thank goodness the draft is so strong in secondary players and we don't have to face these teams with a safety group of senior citizens...

Now lets compare our WR core with those teams.

Even if you get Ridely it still won't be better than those teams...  Ridely is no Julio, Evan's, Thomas, Brown or OBJ.. At least we can have a comparable secondary to stop those teams .

You don't stop those WR's.lol

Ridley/Moore are not those WR's, but they can give us another solid threat for Cam. The more weapons the better our offense has to keep up with these elite offenses in our division.

We can have the best defense in the NFL, we still need to outscore the Falcons/Saints even the Bucs have a good offense.

It's time to give Cam some help on offense, we have gone far too long with him carrying the offense on his shoulders. Get the man some damn weapons!

No matter who you draft we still won't have the weapons to match these teams...

lol so basically you're saying keep what we have on offense which is not much and build a secondary to try and stop the Falcons/Saints/Bucs on offense?

Good luck with that. Even if we had a good secondary those offenses are still going to put up points. You don't stop a Brees led offense or a Ryan/Julio led offense. Get Cam some help on offense and we can be at the top of the division with those teams.

Otherwise we are going to struggle to score points all year.

Might have to add Ridley and Moore to that list if Ravens/Cowoboys go WR in round 1.

I will say this tho, the last 3 winners of the South also led south in PPG.

Eagles and Patriots were both in super bowl and finished 1 and 2 in PPG last year.

In 2016 the Falcons led the league in points and were in the super bowl. The saints finished 2nd and the patriots led the AFC at 3rd overall and won the Super Bowl.

In 2015 We led the league in points and were in the Super Bowl.

14 the patriots led league in PPG and won the Super Bowl

13 the Broncos led the league in PPG and made it the Super Bowl

Having the ability to score points is never a bad thing and could easily be argued it’s more important than a good defense. After all teams build around a QB first and foremost for a reason.

You have a better chance at stopping them with a top 5 defense than you do of getting in a shoot out with a offense that isn't as good as there's is...

We would have a great defense if you add a good secondary.. A great defense beats great offenses most of the time.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
