Is what Jake is doing a surprise?

Football is a team sport no one player can or should have to carry a team. A offense should have balance which flew out the window the second we drafted Stewart. We had the same gameplan for almost 16 games then when we get to the playoffs the Cards don't have to be genius to figure out how to stop us. And you are ignoring the Steve Slaytons and Hightowers of last years drafts. RB's who helped there teams out that were drafted in the second day. If you are going to run a 2 back system both guys don't need to be superstars to make it work they just need to mesh well together.
I'm sure if they knew that Williams would explode like he did they would have gone in a different direction. I think they expected Stewart to take the starting job and make it his when they took him.

The same could be said about Stewart when we drafted him. He was coming off of surgery and was going from college to the pros. Where Dwill had proven he good make plays at this level (see his YPC average the year before) and was healthy. Lets face it they were running scared. They knew it gave them the best chance at winning in the reg season. They were more concerned about saving there jobs then the Future.

Well, look at a player like Jerious Norwood. He has a gaudy yards-per-carry average and always has. No one's seriously thought of him as an every down back since he's been in the league. Williams was likely in the same situation with the coaching staff--he couldn't block well and he didn't run with the power he does now. And they had their own doctors examine Stewart, and felt they were getting a steal (he still looks great too).

At the time they also thought that Moore was the future, it was that year's preseason that he showed he wasn't. They went out and got McCown because of that, right?

You can toss out accusations all you want, but everyone wants to win. The coaches, players, front office, fans, we all want the team to win and win big. The people who make the decisions generally make pretty good ones, as evidenced by their record since they've been here. Just because some people on message boards disagree with what they're doing doesn't make it bad. It's probably a lot better than what most could do.

They're concerned with winning. Winning now, in the future, in the regular season, and in the postseason. If they do that, then everything else takes care of itself. To think for a minute that they're not is just nuts.

You are contradicting yourself now. Your saying a coach is nervous about entering the next season with a RB who was averaging 5.5 YPC but he was comfortable in entering the season with a QB who was undrafted and had a grand total of 3 starts under his belt in the single most important position on the team. Fox and Hurney bottoms were on fire last off-season they drafted the two guys that could help them most in the short run to win them games last year. They knew that Flaco wouldn't contribute to the team immediately so they passed on him. They ignored how well he fits what we need in a QB (skillset wise).

    • Would be happy with Lomu or Iheanachor at 19. Fano is intriguing but I don't think he makes it.
    • II see it this way: We have to look at long-term needs and current depth.  We have filled some key spots with players on one-year contracts.  I firmly believe that they intend to pay Bryce some big bucks next year.  That means you cannot hope that your rookies in 2027 can fill the spots vacated by the veterans you could not afford to re-sign.   We need to consider the cap and the fact that the need to start a rookie is not viewed as a positive by coaches and general managers, but they value first contracts--so it is a delicate balance. I think they have to look at the cap by position--"Can we afford a $50m QB and a $100m OL?  That is half the cap, before you pay your WRs and RBs and TEs.  They need to start getting younger on the OL as well.   I am not suggesting that we draft OT in round 1, but we could and I would get it.  RT on a 1-year deal, they may have intel about Ickey (who was not the best LT, to be honest) and 32-year old Moton is on a bad wheel.   Now if you go by Morgan's history, you can almost tell what position we are going to address with the first pick by noting the positions he has not focused on in free agency.  DT, considering the lack of performance by those not named Derrick Brown and the loss of Robinson, is screaming to be addressed with a top player.  Wharton is not an early down DT (DE if you want to get technical) and our LBs need to be clean--they were not in 2025.  Look for a DT early. I also think we will address ILB (pass covering Will) on day 2.  The other day 2 pick will be an OT, in my view. Do not rule out CB.  We are thin there too, and Jackson is in his final year.  I am not sure that we love Smith-Wade.  Some crackhead on here talked about moving him to S----stay tuned.   Hopefully, a team wanting Ty Simpson will move up and offer us a pick or two to move back. DT WILB OT OC QB  (you heard it here 337th--but this pick could come sooner than you think.
    • Bryce had some bad games, but he had some good ones as well (and this is coming from a Bryce skeptic). I think it's a little simplistic to put all the offensive woes on Bryce, you also should be looking at O-line play, receiver play, RB and TE play, and also coaching. There's no way when I look at the offense in it's totality am I ready to say that a so-so to bad offense was all on Bryce, and, I also can't say that we don't need to upgrade any position on offense, save Tetairoa McMillan (who also wasn't perfect) and maybe the starting guards and T-mo.
