Cam’s late “personal foul” for taunting

To be fair, had we lost, any s--t Cam took for that play would have been deserved.

If Luke Kuechly gets a pass for numerous missed tackles against a division rival in a tough road loss, why do we need this much dialogue about an innocuous moment in a game where our offensive playmakers more than held up their end of the bargain en route to a victory against a quality defense?

There are more pages of posts about this than there are about how well Newton has been playing.

Missed tackles are the equivalent of poorly thrown passes. While both are bad, neither is particularly dumb.

Throwing a ball at an opposing player is dumb.

He learned his lesson, the team moves on.

Well that's debatable since this is the 3rd or 4th time he has gotten this exact penalty in the last few years even though this one was a little more ticky tack than his previous ones where he actually tossed the ball at defenders.

Seemed almost like a makeup call for the unsportsmanlike Ian Thomas drew when he was on sideline and he shoved the Bengals player into the bench, the Bengals player retaliated by slapping the ball then Thomas shoved him again and the Bengals player got the penalty. I had a good laugh at that one.

So now we’re back to saying he threw the ball at Dunlap?

Is there any video evidence of that actually happening?

Sitting a ball down in a defenders lap shouldn’t be a personal foul. That is ridiculous and wouldn’t be called if Aaron Rodgers had done it.

I must be watching the wrong gif. He looked like he was possibly tossing it away at first, then he puts it down.

Where did he literally throw it at an opposing player?

I’ve been waiting on someone to provide some sort of evidence of this. But no one has yet. It was some ticky tack call that only goes against certain players.

Yes, had we lost, it would have been a poo fest on cam. I will never understand it.

He would have deserved the poo fest because that penalty took us out of FG range which would have iced the game. Had the Bengals scored on the ensuing drive it would have been Cam's fault the game was tied. Cam got bailed out.

I don't know that I'd call what he did dumb. Maybe a lapse in judgement or letting his emotions get the best of him, but dumb is a bit much.

But it's also who Cam is. He's a trash talker. He's gonna get taunts every now and then. To be honest, you want him picking them up. If he's not playing well, he's not talking poo.

Even Igo mentioned it earlier in the thread.

Where is this hidden bigfootesque footage of Cam throwing the ball?

This is a "taunt" that cost the Browns the game a couple years ago where the ball clearly slips out of Pryor's hand when he is trying to toss the ball to the refs and it accidentally lands on the Ravens defender. Tossing the ball at a defender or handing the ball to a defender is a taunt every time. It's not new.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
