Panther Talk / Julius Peppers

I never would have imagined when he left after the 2009 season that he:

1) Would ever come back or even retire as a Panther

2) Would ever have embraced a mentor and leadership role

3) Would ever be comfortable talking to the media

In fairness to Pep, in retrospect he went from Bailey, NC (hometown) to Chapel Hill, NC (UNC) to Charlotte,  NC (Panthers).  Getting out of the state for a while obviously was a good thing for his development in every regard.

We could not ask for more than what he has been both a player and member of the community since he has been back.

P.S. I truly hope Tepper can mend fences with Smitty.  I would hope the greatest players in franchise history (so far) would feel truly welcome and want to be a part of the Panthers franchise in some capacity for as long as they want.

Tepper needs to open up the Panthers Hall of Fame again next year, starting with Smitty.  And then for Pep,& TD when they retire.

I also think Jake Delhomme, Jordan Gross, Moose, and Ryan Kalil deserve some consideration.  This franchise is going on 25 years now.  It's been over a generation.  There is definitely enough history to warrant it.

Agree 100%

And I think signs are promising both on reconciliation with Smitty and a Hall of Fame.

Smitty came to practice and is doing weekly WFNZ broadcasts. He seems to have chilled now that Dave is gone.

I've already heard Tep talk about a Panthers Hall if Fame / Ring of Honor in a few of his conversations with media. ( Don't have a link, sorry). Ron too mentioned it in Pittsburgh when the team was there in August and the team visited the Steelers Hall of Fame...

Next year is a great opportunity. 25th season. Tepper will have been around a year. Plenty of time to settle in and work on this.

Opening the hall of fame and making a Lombardi the main attraction wouldn’t be a bad idea either

I would add Mike Minter and  Mike Rucker to that list as well.  Career Panthers who played at a high level for many years.
