Would you like to dig into and debate a few points from Reid's screed about "400 years of oppression"?

By all means, illuminate us with your hot take on Reid's 'screed.' I can tell it's going to be fair and balanced. I'm all for you shining a light on yourselves, so go ahead, do my work for me.

The "stormhuddle" thing has been a running joke, but this sort of rhetoric here the day after one of the worst losses in franchise history is just shameful beyond words for this community.

Honestly I'm hoping the Panthers do something more to get engaged with the fanbase to offer alternatives. It should be about inclusiveness. Not shielding casual southern bigotry. The huddle just continues to move in the wrong direction.

Wow, this place is more rough-and-tumble than the Steelers board.

I like Reid and wish Pittsburgh would’ve gone after him. God (and every offensive coordinator) know, their secondary could use the help. Didn’t think he was headhunting like Kazee, but a shot to a sliding QB’s head isn’t gonna be overlooked.

Ben and Cam are big guys with reps as being among the most difficult to bring down. And both have always been on the receiving end of very few roughing/unnecessary roughness calls over their careers. BS treatment.

Steeler fans used to joke about James Harrison getting “randomly” drug-tested every other week. Kicker hits a long-ass FG? Test him. Punter thumps one 60+ yards? Test him. Totally random, though.

Have you heard or read the screed?  Do you know what was said about the last 400 years?

Absolutely, and he's absolutely right. It wasn't a screed. There has been systemic oppression of blacks in the U.S. for the last 400 years. You'd have to be blind or oblivious because you've benefited directly from it, to deny it.

Not sure what yall are talking about but I'm not mad about Reid getting thrown out on account of it being a waste of time. The NFL has made it clear that quarterbacks will be protected. Reid was being aggressive (maybe overly), Ben got hit in the head, they decided to throw him out. I still stan for 25, hope we play better next game. That's it, really. I'm just glad our guys jumped in and let 66 for the Steelers know he isn't gonna just run up on one of our dudes. They let him know.

As spot on as anything can be from a locker room interview. What about it do you disagree with exactly?

you know, the part where slavery was some kind of oppression and didn't actually help black people, plus slavery was a choice.  i heard that from a genuine black person.  and he doesn't like the way that darkie is making him feel.

Because he's a laughably uninformed blowhard who just happens to have an unwarranted podium due to athletic celebrity from which he spews a revisionist history screed on the last 400 years as it relates to blacks and America all of which reflects poorly on our team and local values and I don't like the kneeling and I hope he goes away...

...and as a free American, it's certainly your prerogative to not like my position on it.

Ugh

During the screed Reid made an assertion that "for 400 years blacks have never had access to home loans"....

Do you believe that to be an accurate statement?

do you think black people have had the same access as white people?  is it possible you misunderstood the point and are trying to find any reason at all to not have to listen to uppity black people?

No, that's not what he said. If you're going to choose this 'screed' as the 'hill you want to die on,' at least get it right.

Reid stated:

“That’s slavery, Jim Crow, new Jim Crow, mass incarceration, you name it. The Great Depression — they come out with the New Deal, and black people didn’t have access to those government stimulus packages. The New Deal set up what is known as the modern-day middle class. We didn’t have access to those programs, the GI Bill, social security, home loans, none of that. So this has been happening since my people have gotten here. And so, I just felt the need to say something about it.”

He's referring to the practice of red-lining. The New Deal created the National Housing Act, which in turn created the FHA. The FHA made it policy to turn down blacks for home loans. You can start your research here for a broad overview: https://www.charlotteagenda.com/20730/how-charlotte-came-to-be-a-segregated-city/. Wikipedia is a decent resource as well.

What he said is accurate and factual.

Ya'll, we need to just let people who disapprove of Reid's protest just sit and stew. Clearly he's touching on actual societal issues that have unfairly affected black people and folks are more mad that he brought it up than the issues themselves. It's no use arguing when they mask their discomfort towards independent black thought as a want for "historical accuracy." It's clear as day they pedantry over every little thing he's saying is just an attempt to discredit and silence because people are bitter he spoke up in the first place. Textbook white fragility.

And no, saying "white fragility" doesn't make me racist, it is totally a thing.

    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
    • Because playoff hockey and regular season hockey aren’t the same thing.  It’s a combination of the game intensity being dialed up with loose officiating.
