I don't think that's accurate. I think his contract would be pretty much a wash this coming year as a post June 1st cut. That's why I'm saying to keep him for next year.

The “split” can vary tricky with different contracts. If what @stbugs is proposing is taking 4M of the 12M In dead money this year with the remaining 8M in 2020.

Which is the issue, so to speak. With 9.8M from Kalil hitting that year as well, we would be staring at 18M in dead cap space before we are even close that season. I can see the line of thinking. He regressed, but so did his surrounding cast and their level of play. But he played poorly enough that it’s a legit question, for sure. But I would have to bet on enough of a “bounce-back” at least for next year. At least at this moment we n time. Now, if you can get a draft pick to eat that money, that changes things. But also accelerates the cap hit to all 12M next year.

I'm not ready to dump anyone on the defensive side of the ball until I know how the Rivera/Washington situation works out. I believe it quite possible that most of the defense is under-performing because of the system/scheme/playcalling that Washington has implemented. Just seems like he has lost the players' confidence, which is why Rivera is now "officially" stepping in (you know, AFTER the damage has been done).

I would like to see what a new, COMPETENT DC can get out of Short, Poe, Addison, Obada and Thompson. It sucks that Thompson may cost $10M next year, but with TD retiring (and not likely to entertain the idea of working with a new DC, but who knows), the Panthers can ill afford to try to plug two major holes in their line-backing corps. There are too many OTHER holes that need to be addressed first.

For the OLine, yes to re-signing Chris Clark - but not as a starter. Move Moton to LT and go find another RT, either through the draft, trade or FA signing unless Williams is willing to take a make-good deal for one year with an option.

Save the real money for one or two good DEs not named Clowney (pipe dream). Re-sign Eric Reid and bring in competition for the other safety spot.

And hope like hell another Dante Jackson somehow falls in the Panthers lap.
