SPEAK FOR YOURSELF TAKE - Does Rhule want Cam?

No idea, but two things...

Jourdan Rodrigue has stated that while they'll ask his opinion, the Newton decision will still be made by Tepper and Hurney.

Also, he was asked in a radio interview how much he knew about our personnel. Rhule said he didn't know anything but he was going to get to work on getting to know the players.

Under the same breath he somehow says Will Grier is Joe Montana?

Here is a thought that has no basis in anything more than speculation:

Did he get a seven-year deal because he knew that he might have to develop a quarterback?  If I thought Cam was not returning--or might not---I would not take a 3-year deal.

I know that is probably not the case, but thought I would throw it out there.

I don’t think he got 7 years because he wanted time to develop a QB, probably more about his sports science and player development. He turned Temple and Baylor around in about 3 years. Even if Rhule did go with a Rookie QB of his choosing he would have about 3 years to get to the playoffs or Super Bowl. Examples include Goff, Wentz, Lamar Jackson, Wilson, Watson, Mahones. If you can’t make it as a QB like Winston or Mariota, you are out by year 3/4.

Smitty wasn't a natural leader. In fact he shunned rookies and wouldn't even talk to them. He actually was critical of Cam who was the quarterback and on every team is the leader of the offense. If Smitty had been a defensive player they could have coexisted perhaps. But on any team if an offensive player is critical of the QB and they can't get along, one of them leaves and is isn't the QB. The anyone was referring to a coach not a player. Again what player follows another player instead of the coach unless that player was a positive influence and the locker room was in shambles.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion....

Hey guys, new poster to the huddle but I've been a long time follower. I came across this piece and I think they talk about a lot of our concerns if Rhule can win a locker room or if he is even qualified to coach in the NFL. First piece is James Harrison bashing Rhule and saying that he's not proven, probably what a lot of our veteran leaders on the team or even panthers fans are thinking. Lavar Arrington actually played with Rhule at Penn State and makes some very valid points (starts about 3:16) about why Cam needs to buy into Rhule to regain his dominance. Great perspectives from former players, should watch in its entirety.

Tepper kept laying $1,000,000 bills on the table until Rhule said yes.

Turns out it took 60 of those bad boys to get the job done.  (not to mention 6 more to buyout Rhule's contract with Baylor)

At that point Tepper is doing the math on how many seasons he can lock the guy down for just in case Rhule turns out to be an out-of-the-park home-run....backed into 7 years, annual pay similar to some of the top SEC coaches currently.

If Rhule blows the doors off the deal will look like a bargain in the long-run.  If he fails Tepper will blow Rhule out and dip into petty cash to pay him out on his contract.

The contract is in no way related to developing a QB or anything else....it's all about Tepper (i) paying the guy what it took to get him here, and (ii) giving Tepper optionality on controlling Rhule should the situation be a home-run.

"7-years" is just a headline....for all intents and purposes this is a 1-year renewable deal at Tepper's discretion.

I am squarely in the camp, if not one of the leaders of, the Cam should and will return to the Panthers in 2020...

...that said, what you say wasn't true w/ Cam & Smitty.

Cam has a wakeup call coming and hopefully he will respond in the proper fashion --- things are getting ready to get a lot more serious around here, especially so for Cam.

I personally do not think Cam was all that thrilled with the Turners

not that he would ever say anything critical of anyone else, he never has..just watching him since 2018 at the stadium and around those coaches. And precious in 2017 and that may have been contract related.  ..let me also say, I don’t think cam is that hard to please, fashion maven he may be, but he doesn’t struck me as the diva Brady is
