i'm one to take overall stats with a grain of salt. i like to look deeper into numbers and dig up crap that imo opinion tell the real story.

i believe this game is going to be decided by either team's rushing attack...even with brees at the helm for the saints.

first the obvious...

ranked 24th, carolina's run defense leaves much to be desired.

the not so obvious...

ranked 4th in rushing offense, new orleans is relentless with rushing the ball. they average 34 attempts a game. 27 attempts is the least they've run in a single game this season. that means even with probably the best passing attack in the league, they are not going to give up on the run...period. something carolina has finally decided to do (i think).

carolina, who now has decided to truly live or die by the run (i hope) is ranked 5th in rushing offense.

now the point to ponder...

the saints 11th ranked rush defense...injuries or no injuries, things are not quite what they seem.

these are what the opposing teams have done against the saints rushing defense each week. keep in mind, these are net rushing yards...not just numbers from a single starting RB.

week 1 - 33 yards 1.6 ypc

week 2 - 79 yards 3.6 ypc

week 3 - 89 yards 4.2 ypc

week 4 - 132 yards 4.9 ypc

week 5 -bye...time to rest

week 6 - 74 yards 4.4 ypc

week 7 - 137 yards 4.6 ypc

week 8 - 161 yards 6.7 ypc

anyone notice the trend?

      This And with possibly needing to replace Bryce next year and a deep QB class, I do not hate the idea of moving far enough back to pick up another 1st rounder next year out of the deal. I wouldn't have said that a week ago, but I also never expected us to land 3 big FA's at our 3 biggest positions of need like we have, it totally changes things.

      The OL has certainly been better than the trainwreck it was three or four years ago. As far as competitiveness let's apply some realism and clarity here. Quite a bit of the competitiveness in 2025 came from the defensive side of the ball which gave up the most points in league history the year before and was one of the bottom 5 units in terms of salary cap allocation for 2025 while the OL was top 3. We had the 26th passing offense last year. And if not for a herculean couple of games from Rico Dowdle we don't back our way into the division title or make the playoffs because we went 4-6 in our final ten games including being swept by the Saints who were starting a rookie 2nd round pick most of us mercilessly mocked when they selected him. In conclusion yes we've seen a difference. The question now is will the investment pay off the way we want. But the only way that happens is if we field a top 15 offense. If we can't even crack the top 20 then there need to be some very warm seats across the board. And I would hope just about anyone here should agree with that.

      These Spurs are lowkey loaded.  If healthy, they could win it all this year (#2 in the West right now). I still think we’ve gotta keep Kalk on Wemby; he’s not getting completely dominated like every other NBA center.
