Board exercise game...

Simple game.. You're the GM.. Either finish building a 3/4 defense with the draft or FA .. Or build a 4/3 defense.. Who do you keep?? Who do you target in the draft and FA??

Example

Finishing the 3/4.. We need 2 NT, 2 3/4 DE, 1 OLB, 1 MLB and some secondary guys..

Cut Poe or KK and then get rid of the other guy next offseason..

Resign Boston, and Crockrell

FA target

Danny Shelton NT

Joe Shobert MLB

Artie Burns CB

Carl Nassib OLB or Dante Fowlers OLB

Draft targets

1st is Okulad CB

2nd  Ross Blacklock DL

And later rounds James Lynch DL, Leki Futo NT, Alex Highsmith edge rushers..

So defense is

3/4 DE's Obada, Blacklock, KK, Lynch, Smith/or another cheap FA signing..

NT Shelton, Futo

3/4 OLB Burns, Nassib, Miller, Hayes, Highsmith

MLB Shaq, Shobert, Jordan, Carter Jr.

Cb Okulad, Burns, Jackson, Cockrell, Cole

Safeties Boston, Reid, Jones, cheap FA signing..

Now if I go 4/3 ..

We probably need 3 DT, 2 DE, 1 MLb and Secondary..

Keep KK still let Poe go..

Resign

Mario, Boston, Cockrell

FA target

Burns cb

Aj Klein mlb

Danny Shelton DT

Ogubah DE

Draft..

Brown DT

Aj Terrell cb

Kyle Dugger S

Later rounds James Lynch DL,  Willie Gay Jr. LB

Now you Have..

DE Obada, Burns, Addison, Ogubah, Smith, Hayes

DT Kk, Brown, Shelton, Lynch

LB Shaq, Carter JR, Klein, Jordan, Miller, Gay jr.

Cb Burns, Terrell, Jackson, Cockrell, Cole/Evan's

S Reid, Boston, Dugger, Jones

You can also do this with the Offense as well..

Fa agent Targets

Ebron TE

Joe Thuney OG/C

Either  resign Hogan

Or sign Higgins WR

Draft

Either Ruiz OG /c in the 3rd

Or Berdthson /OG in the 4th

And Draft either 3rd/4th or 5th

Claypool wr ND

Pittman Jr. Wr USC (cali)

Edward's WR USC (Carolina)

People Jones WR UM

So now on offense you have

QB Cam, Klye , Will

RB CMC , Scarlet, Bonefied

FB Armageddon

TE Ian, Ebron, Manhertz

Wr DJ, Curtis, Zulturs, Rookie, Hogan, another cheap FA

OT Okung, Moton, Little Daley

OG Thuney, Daley, Rookie and cheap FA

C Pardis, Rookie, cheap fa

Build the team, but toward a 43 D

Trade 1st and 2nd round picks to the Raiders who want to draft Hebert.

With 12 and 19, we get DT Kinlaw and DE Gross Matos

3rd Round, we pray that Kyle Duggar is still around

4th Round, Jordan Brooks for MLB

5th Round, Harrison Hand CB

Bring Butler back at DT, keep Obada and pray

Not sure how much money we will have so did not want to blow it on a MLB.

Will Cam be here?  Bradberry? etc.

I hate to spend a ton of cash on guys that are 28 or so, but it might be necessary.  Too many variables to go there with any credibility for me.

Estimate about 35 to 40 after Poe and others are gone and subtract about 10 to 12mil for the rookies.. So yeah around 28 mil is a good rough estimate...

If they move Cam it could be about 60 to 63mil..

According to overthecap.com our rookie pool cap number is $9,670,000, then minus 7 minimum contracts (that the rookies push out of the top 51) brings it to around 6.1 million to sign our rookie class if we don't trade around at all.

Good.. That might leave us 32 to 30 mil to spend in FA..

    • Ppl want to trade Melo? Am I wrong for thinking that would be a bad idea?
    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
    • It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
