Jameis Winston to Saints being finalized

I can blame Arians offense for having a higher interception rate than other offenses.  But I can't blame Arians for 30 interceptions.  Winston has to own a lot of those.  When I was watching him, it wasn't just a case of "no risk it, no biscuit" offense.  He was making some dumb throws, and on top of that he was missing on throws.  He has to own the dumb throws, but I heard he had a banged up thumb that might have contributed to some of the missed throws.

Nobody is arguing he doesn't make bad/dumb throws.  He certainly does.  But, when you install a high-risk offense with a QB who has an interception issue to start with, you can't be surprised when his interceptions go up.  And they may go up mightily.  I hadn't heard about the thumb injury, but either way, the mix set both him and the offense up for failure.

I may have muddled that when I acknowledged my minimal appreciation for Arians' unwillingness to modify his offense based on situations or who is throwing the passes.  But make no mistake, Winston's body of work last year should not have been a surprise, given his past performance and his style.  Unless people thought he was suddenly going to become Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers with his judgment and accuracy.

I don't know if he will get better than his 1.5:1 ratio (prior to the awful mix of him and what Arians' offense demands).  He may, since New Orleans offense is less "let 'er rip" than Arians', assuming he can adapt and learn from that when/if he gets the chance.  Or he may be a lost cause in that respect.

The mix of Brady with Arians' offense may be an odd marriage.  I don't know that Brady 1) has the arm left to wing it downfield to Arians' liking, and 2) is willing to do so at the expense of potentially taking sacks and throwing into deep coverage.  It feels to me like one of them is going to have to give.  Personally, I think Arians is going to have to adjust, or his claim to fame will become "the coach who could not win with Tom Brady."

Once again youtube comes thru for the win.  This video just shows Winston's interceptions from 2019, and it closely mirrors what I saw live.  Watch how many of these INTs are just bad decisions or poor throws that have nothing to do with how aggressive Arian's offense is.

Winston doesn't see LBers in coverage a lot of times. It's a little crazy to me.

Winston is essentially like playing Madden for most of this decade when you tossed a medium ranged ball to a receiver, and a LB made Super Man leap to snag the ball out of the air 7 feet above his head. Except in Winston's case it's just because the LBer was standing directly in front of the receiver and the pass hit them in the numbers.

Watch the video of his interceptions, and you tell me how many of those you think are because Arians offense is too aggressive.
