It's not a cure and I'm not looking for a quick fix.  I am seeing to specific prospects that warrant a re-look at our prioritization; which I agree should be lines out.  OL>QB.

From my view, take out Fields and Wilson, I would not be pushing for a Trask or whoever over OT in the first and would honestly be open to a MLB, OL, heck even a CB.

I am seeing a level with them that is just too appealing at this juncture.  Again, does NOT mean you can't still address the line.  Not taking a LT with our first rounder does not mean we're neglecting the position.  I'd sure as hell take it, but I'm not dying on the hill that it needs to be prioritized there no matter where the value is or who is available.

Your opening post talks about how you've "been patient" but now you want us to "go get our guy" and you're willing to trade up to do it.

The kind of trade up you're talking about would make it extremely difficult to build much of anything.

We had a thread here not long ago asking people whether they wanted to build the line first or get a quarterback. The overwhelming majority favored building the line first, and for good reason. It's been years since the Panthers put enough of a priority on protection to make a difference, and it's hurt us.

If we don't start building a solid line as soon as possible, it's not gonna matter who we put behind them.

I'd add that the last time we had people thinking "this is the guy and we've got to get this guy and nobody else will do", that guy was Andrew Luck.

I'm beginning to wonder how many fans will stick with Tepper & his Panthers.

The combination of Tepper keeping TB5 for the long-haul after unceremoniously jettisoning Newton will surely be more than many can bear?

2-3 years isn’t the long haul.

Agreed. I love the Teddy deal. he's good enough to start, but not elite. I see him going one of 2 routes; bouncing all over the league on short term deals ala Nick Foles, or settling in long term as one of the better back ups ala Derek Anderson. I would love to draft our long-term, elite QB this year, but if we don't, I think we can still win with TB5.

What I'm trying to say is that I agree that we should build the line first but it shouldn't be a blanketed generalization of positional priority and should consider the specific prospect.  Sure, I may have been hyperbolic in my OP but I'll hold firm on what I'm trying to say.  I won't die on the what year is worse hill with the OL but hold firm with my overall intent here.  Yes, Reed & Paradis are both huge problems and we're not getting the interior wall on passing downs.

For every Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold, there's been a Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.

The Bills build with Beane is actually a pretty interesting one to take a look at.

They had John Miller on the line, a second year G/T at LT (who turned out great), a 4th rounder journeyman at C, Jordan Mills on the right side.  It was messy.

And the only carryover from the line they first gave Allen was the player taken 1 pick before Moton in Dion Dawkins.  Just interesting perspective with that one.  They built their line after getting Allen.

Also--The Chief's didn't have a 1st round pick until 2019 after trading up to draft Mahomes in 2016.

I'll concede the points about the comparison of lines, but again, think Wilson & Fields specifically warrant this type of consideration. Luckily I'm not the GM :)

You can't go just by looking at what the Bills and Chiefs picked up after drafting quarterbacks without looking at who they already had.

And that's the thing: We're not just looking at filling one or two weak spots. Barring an extension with Moton, we're talking about building an entire line from scratch.

Is it possible to do that? Maybe, but trading away draft resources makes it a whole lot harder.

Bottom Line: We need to build a wall up front, and that may not be just a one year project.

Putting a young quarterback behind a line like we've got now is absolutely not an option.

As mentioned, the Bills completely rebuilt their line minus the player taken 1 spot before Moton after Allen's rookie year.

The Chief's did have a decent one in tact.

While a young quarterback is the most exciting pick you can make, my personal opinion is that there are always up and comers every year, college doesn’t stop churning and so the fact is, Luck wasn’t the last great prospect, so too with  Lawrence or Fields, nether will be the last hyped young gun. I believe we will find that guy but I am not certain at this time it will be this year, that isn’t to say we don’t need one, however with our other needs I fear like Watson in Houston, it may be the right man at the wrong time. Our past failing with Cam hurt, and I believe of course Coach Rhule will do his best not to let that be repeated under his care, I want this team to build with patient dedication to the process we hired. That is my hope
