Good article on our slump

Early on in the season, the Charlotte Hornets were one of the best offensive teams in the league. They were nailing three-pointers, running in transition, and everything was running smoothly. Only the problem was, their defense was absolutely horrific. A lack of communication and overall effort killed them.

But now, funnily enough, those themes have flip-flopped.

In Charlotte’s last 13 games (2-11 record), they hold the 11th-best defensive rating in the league (110.1), but the third-worst offensive rating (105.8). They’re playing some of their best defense of the season, but now magically, their offense has gone cold. In reality, though, there’s nothing magic about it.

When the Hornets’ offense was at its peak, the ball was moving on a string. LaMelo Ball initiated the offense, Gordon Hayward and/or Terry Rozier were there to keep it moving, and Mason Plumlee acted as a tertiary facilitator from the post. And the crazy part about it is, their passing numbers are still elite.

Over those same 13 games where the Hornets have gone 2-11, they rank first in the NBA in passes made (311.4), sixth in assists (26.8), and first in potential assists (53.8). The ball is moving, Charlotte just isn’t finishing the job. As painful (and obvious) as it is to say, they’re just missing shots.

----

’s a sadistic truth and one that can only be fixed by water finding its level. And for those keeping score at home, the Hornets shot 7-for-20 on wide-open threes against the Milwaukee Bucks in their blowout loss.

Some notable individual numbers over the last 13 games are as followed:

Terry Rozier: 33.6 percent, 8.9 threes/game
Kelly Oubre Jr: 25.0 percent. 8.3 threes/game
PJ Washington: 31.6 percent, 5.8 threes/game
Miles Bridges: 24.3 percent, 5.4 threes/game
Cody Martin: 29.4 percent, 2.4 threes/game
Ball is the only one finding success from range lately, shooting 39.6 percent on 7.8 attempts per night over the last 13 games. Other than that, almost everyone is shooting well below their season averages.

can't post the whole article, and it's not long, it's worth a read

This is what happens when your coaches doesn’t have an offensive and defensive strategy that compliment each other. You can’t play legit defense if your offensive is all about fast paced transition, run and gun scoring. Now that they are trying to lock down on defense, Borrego doesn’t have a half court offense in lace for these guys to run. They’re still free styling it resulting in a lot of iso ball and passing way too many times and often times out of wide open looks.

Obviously guys need to be hitting their wide open shots but some structure on offense would go a long way for this team. That falls on Borrego.

ah jeez, I have loved the Hornets since I was a little kid, but all this back and forth in performance has killed my interest lately. Although I'm gonna defend them again by saying,, life is getting brutal on my side and I am easily distracted from the things I truly used to enjoy, so I'll just always wish them well and hope to have a better head soon to just catch up games and enjoy them again.

    • Idk man, I think it’s necessary.  There’s people working 9-5s everyday that get told poo about what they aren’t and what they’re not capable of and they’re working for scraps.  These guys are making millions.  People are watching and invested because their team and fandom is a part of their identity and a big source of pride.  When someone like Bryce comes in and is given chance after chance after chance after proving he is not worthy of the position he’s being gifted, and he continues to be the biggest reason above any that we are losing, yeah…  I think it’s fair to call a spade a spade.  Am I saying Bryce the person is trash?  Bryce the person is a piece of poo?  Absolutely not.     I came up in an era, especially in basketball, where if you were fuging up people heckled the poo out of you.  I played in rec leagues as a teen where the fuging parents were calling kids trash and yelling poo like “TURNOVER!!!  TURNOVER!!!”  “CANT DRIBBLE!”  “CANT SHOOT!”  And that’s adults screaming that poo to kids like we were in the fuging Rucker lol.🤣🤣🤣  I went on to play basketball at a collegiate level and with professional players in different settings.  What those experiences as a kid taught me was to see if there is any merit to what people are saying, and if there is, then work my ass off til they can’t say that anymore.  Come back better, tougher, harder.  And I did.  If kids can figure that poo out, an adult calling another adult who is bad at his job while making millions and millions of dollars will be just fine.
    • I have tried to like this team, lord knows I have tried. BY9 is a nice young man, if I had a daughter he can take her to prom, but he ain't QB1 and he's not Cam or Delhomme Chuba is a average RB, he isn't Stephen Davis, he isn't J-Stew McMillan has the makings of a good WR, but he isn't 89/Moose D. Brown is a great player, but if the game was on the line I want Kris Jenkins       I miss this brand of football, even in the bad Jake games the games were entertaining It has been nearly 8 years now of watching numb football
    • I'm not so sure. Something about the whole Frank/Bryce situation seemed off from day 1. Bryce didn't fit Frank's QB mold as well as Stroud, then he basically gives up when Bryce is named starter in preseason but gets virtually no reps in games. Then he looks completely unprepared and Dalton steps in in Seattle, has a decent game under immense pressure, and it's right back to Bryce. All his mechanics are terrible and he's having the worst rookie season ever and Frank doesn't bench him?  You dont have to be a conspiracy theorist to know Bryce wasn't ready to be a day 1 starter. Everything with Bryce, then coaches, and the FO seemed forced.
