That wasn't what was said.

What was said was we know what happens when he's behind and has to produce.

.Well he showed against the Vikings that even though his recievers were dropping the ball left and right that he could take us 90yds. Including 2 4th down dimes.

He has done it once. The defense  collapsed in overtime.

So he did it once and we lost? PJ Walker did that this year against the Falcons.

Not exactly.

Sam never got the ball in OT just like Allen never got the ball vs the Chiefs.

Sam didn't lose the game anymore than Josh Allen.

Phil Snow and the defense collapsed on back to back  possessions.

That doesn’t count for a comeback win.
They scored 28 points with 7 of those coming from a punt block TD. So 21 from the offense while Sam had 2 turnovers in a pick and fumble to his 1 TD. He definitely contributed to that loss…

Again here was the original statement.

He's best when there's no must score drives.

"Darnold does ok when the opposing team cant score but if they can it gets ugly. His best games are when there's no must score drives"

When in fact he answered the bell more than once last year on must score drives.

is he an all star? Nope.

does he have all pro physical skills? Yep

has his head and processing been fixed? Most likely not.

is he the best QB on the active roster? Yes by far.

Our draft position is shot might as well get behind him and try to win the whole damn thing.

That’s all fair. I just think people wanting to roll with him next year if he “flashes” during these next few games are destined to repeat history.

My view is. If he only loses one game and gets to the playoffs then he should get another year at a reasonable rate.

While we still have Matt and while we pick up a second QB in the draft.

I'm not willing to break the bank. Worst case he's a competent backup if this scenario plays out especially if he wins the Wild Card Game.

I'm also not willing to trade up into the top 2 picks.

Again. Darnold loses only 1 game and resigns for cheap. Matt plus Penix or unfortunately maybe Levis at this point and roll.

    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
