Comparing to past yrs isnt really saying much.the TEs are fine...dude.

Fine? As in #42 and #51 in yards kind of fine? Setting the bar a little low.  Our OL is top half of the League and that's the problem?  We don't have a TE cracking the top 32 in yards...you know, better than at least one other team's #2 guy.

Underutilization...

Top half isnt the goal...top is...that fixes any te issues

Ok, we strive for #1 OL while we languish in TE purgatory.  You can do two things at once.  I agree our TEs are underutilized...because they suck.  As an OC , I would be hesitant to use them too.

False premise...we arent languishing in te purgatory. Neglect doesnt prove hesitantcy. To be sure a top line would elevate te position. As well as qb position.

How?  TEs are generally a QBs security blanket. So a mediocre-to-bad OL should have MORE TE utilization, not less.  A team with a superior OL that doesn't require an in-line blocking TE will opt for the extra WR nearly every time on passing downs. Your logic doesn't make sense.

Just outside the top 10 and you say say that our OL is dragging the entire offense down.  Who is desperate?

That is incorrect. Hopefully not a purposeful lie.

Our TEs are far from "fine". They suck. We have one of the worst TE group's in the NFL. We don't have a starting caliber TE. Our TEs are marginal backups. The Hurney-esque plan of paying a guy like a starter and hoping he'll magically start playing like it is working out predictably. Most fans (myself included) wanted to let Ian Thomas walk without even tendering him an offer. He's a veteran minimum contract level player.

The Lions drafted him. Vikings traded a 2nd and 3rd for him since Cousins is locked in at QB.

Correct, the Lions weren't utilizing him a la Greg Olsen in Chicago.  Being traded doesn't necessarily the player is a bust, rather it's not a fit schematically or another team is interested and the package is good enough to part with the player.

    • A team should always be putting at least one or two draft picks in at tackle and guard each season. Those guys just don't last nearly long enough and those that do get very, very expensive. In our situation, we need a little more time to see what the Icky injury works itself out to. Njiman performed really well out there and if this injury lingers into the next season, then he might do well enough there to hold the line for the team. Or we could draft early if there is a stud LOT in the draft when our spot comes along.  Honestly, we may be looking at replacing both LT and RT this season at this point. Moton is getting long in the tooth and while he deserves a shot to go for a playoff run with this team, I don't know whether we will really see him come back next season yet. It's still so darned early in all of this to say.
    • Because we had a ton of things go our way this year and made the playoffs with a -70 point differential.  This year was the outlier.  Regression to the mean is unavoidable.  So the team will have to significantly improve to beat 8 wins next year.
    • One thing I noticed in this game (and I say this as the biggest of Bryce Young haters) is that Bryce did do a solid job of throwing into voids in this game, and leading receivers on crossers.  There were a few times where I was thinking "where the hell is he throwing it" only for a receiver to appear out of nowhere and catch it in stride.  Mike McDaniel might be a guy that can squeeze a little bit of production out of the otherwise ghastly Bryce Young. His offenses heavily feature that style of passing game.  I've heard Idzik is drawing interest from other teams.  If so, bringing McDaniel in at OC would be a stellar move.  I know it'll never happen, but fun to think about.
