Scroll to the bottom of the page, click the last line and it'll take you to the platform's site.

Thanks  again.  Interesting that I could not see it due to an advertisement covering the bottom of page! (note to self)

Do you guys think the days of internet forums are done?  I am reading several articles that Facebook and Reddit have made them obsolete.  And that the political climate has made it very tough to moderate boards (we are on "exhibit A") and also successful forums are targets for spam and hackers.

I initially thought a good way to build some passive income would be to go the ecommerce route but the good one's are so dependent on Amazon and really over priced or just sell crap so I am thinking building a site is way to go.  I don't have the skillz but a family member does, I just have to make the decision and pull the $ trigger so curious what you think.

also consider vBulletin.

Some hosting services may offer forum software as part of their installation/feature package. Takes some of the guesswork out of choosing/installing one.

I use to run a forum using Web Wiz Forums (which is still available now it seems), in part because it was free, highly customizable, and I knew the language well enough to customize it extensively.  Ran pretty well for about 3 years before we had to take it offline for various reasons

Not everybody is or wants to be on FB.  Same with Reddit (although browsing Reddit is easier than browsing FB).

Think of a dedicated forum like a community that can stand on its own, rather than being dependent on someone else's real estate and traffic.

Lots of boards are successful in avoiding political or other polarizing discussion, and spam/hackers can be dealt with in various manners.

A forum isn't necessarily the guaranteed passive income you think it will be.  Lots of work to maintain/manage for little $ return until you get the dedicated base of traffic. And going immediately along the subscription route is tough if you haven't already established your forum as THE authority on the topic first.

Don't buy into the online hype you see from influencer articles where people are travelling the world claiming they only work "1-2 hours a week". They had to put in 80+ hour weeks on their part-time gig first. And not everybody is willing to put in that sort of effort.

great input, thank you!

Definitely do not have subscriptions in mind until much, much later.  And I have plans for content to go along with the forum, but I am counting on the forum to drive traffic and members.  Thanks again!

You need to have content to go along with the forum.

I'd suggest establishing the content first to establish traffic/authority before moving on to a forum space. See how your content engages users via on-site comments, etc.  Find out if you even have an audience to warrant creating a forum in the first place?

having run a forum before: consider legal liabilities/protections and copyright awareness (among other related topics when it comes to hosting a community) before spinning up yours.

legality is new concept for me, had not considered.

In this new endeavor the "content" is not where I'd be initially competitive.  In other words, I would be utilizing the value of the forum to drive traffic so had focused there.  I see where I would have to educate myself to make sure I was not violating any copyrights thanks again!

Need a side gig?

    • With the exception of knowing our obvious needs and who we were talking to along the way, my question is this:  How did so many people start on this Jalon Walker frenzy?  I think this--everyone wants to have a voice, make a prediction.  Now with social media and 24 hour tv, networks, etc.  it is more like a middle school grapevine than it is a process where people actually dig for real evidence and reasons.  Speculative journalism is lazy, and since there are now 2,348.356 podcasters with basement studios blasting nonsense into our phones all day, I think they just cut and paste ideas.  Yes, coaches lie and mislead, but I don't think Morgan or Canales did.  You are only as reliable as your sources.  Was Morgan more deliberate this year?  I think he heard the gossip and decided to downplay WR.  He said, (paraphrasing) "We like our QB room.  We will probably add to it at some point."  Not a lie, but definitely downplaying things. I was convinced that we needed a blazer to keep safeties honest, but to be honest, I am not sure that we have the QB with the arm to keep safeties honest.  We have Coker who is 6'1", Theilen is 6'2", and Legette is 6'3" and now TMac is 6'4"+.  It seems size has more value than blazing deep speed.  If I had known they thought that, I might have gone with TMac all along--I thought he was not a good fit.  And if you look at the Panther guide and consider the talent they met with in the first round, there was only one offensive player--TMac. There was another quote that Morgan made that might have been a bit revealing or at least directive. (Paraphrasing) "We want players that were productive in college."  Well, TMac was very productive. In 2023 and in 2024, he averaged 108.8 yards per game.   He is also a great artist.  Drew this portrait of Bryce Young from memory: Many people spent 3 months absolutely confident that Jalon Walker would play edge here. We had a need at edge, but with Clowney, Wonnum, and Jones, were we OK if we drafted a second round Edge? Was Walker the answer?  Unlike Hunter, he is a versatile player who could be awesome in the right system, but if used as a pure edge, he is not a top 10 player.  I was convinced that we would sign Jalon and as much as I like the kid, I could not feel good about the pick.  Mykel Williams scared me.  Both might be great players, but I could not see it.  So was Scourton productive? He was as a Jr when he was standing.  When asked to be other things, he lost his edge (pun intended). In essence, I think we got the best pure edge when you take away the other things he was supposed to do.  Walker's productivity was based on his versatility--something he would lose as a pure edge--so we would not really be meeting needs at edge.  Scourton, on the other hand, is better when not asked to be versatile.  Princely had 10.5 sacks in the SEC.  It simply makes sense.
    • I think they will too. Renfrow will use this opportunity to get in shape and get paid for it. After he's cut he will probably get picked up by someone after preseason.
