Why can't we just move Chinn to ILB next to Shaq and be done with it?

The early years of the extension will have huge amounts of money going to Burns, but the cap hits won't be all that terrible.

Even if we only sign 1 big Free Agent, that would negate letting Chinn sign elsewhere after the season, there isn't going to be another unrestricted free agent from this squad next year that could get a good deal.

And we'll have enough cap room next year to go after someone good, finally getting rid of all these massive dead cap hits.

Next year we rule free agency. Moving up to one was huge. We will see if the draft works out for us this year.  Next year is where we shed some dead money and resign the core but add too.  Heck this year we were super active in FA and were working right at the cap. Chinn is a rockstar. He is the modern defense player. All the linebackers this year were basically based off Chinn.  Or Micah Parsons. The oversized safety and the undersized but diesel DE is becoming the norm.  That's why I wanted Jack. He is part of the next wave of quick but old school ILB.

Chinn don't fit inside.  Shaq, TD and Chinn all fit as OLB in a 4-3 but in a 3-4 they move inside and responsibility change. I hope Brown works as a DE cause otherwise with the rentals we have we may need 3 guys upfront and can stop worrying bout the linebackers.  Shaq, Luvu and Yep Smith can hold down the inside and between the multitudes of options at Edge and designed blitzes from Luvu and the safeties we got on roster they should keep the pressure coming

So the front three is where I wanna see a shake up.  As a team coming into FA next year.  Ya think we can find a NT or 3-4 DE on the cheap? Maybe the rentals become more long term. If a handful of players from this off season produce we will be talking bout using the cap to resign or extend folks.

    • Some people have been beaten down so long they have no standards. Can't be reasoned with.
    • Getting better, might be fairly charitable. We finished 1-3 with the pressure on. That is for sure not trending up.  I don’t see a clear run of performances that prove he has taken it to another level. Not yet.  I would say he played really well in the WC game. And folded on that last series where we still had a chance. I think he threw one good ball. That last series is the kind of thing a player is supposed to learn from and not repeat. We have to see him do it before we can credit him for doing it.    I would also say he has not done enough of playing at his ceiling and what we should expect as the game in game out norm is still not established.  We gonna get MNF in SF or we gonna get the WC game? Seattle or Atlanta yardage record?   Besides that he has three years of horrendous play to start the season hanging over him. Are we going to get that again or will he be over that? We can’t know that. Mind you, that isn‘t two of three it is three of three he has yet to play well to start the year as a pro. Ofer.    So, many questions remain.    As far as weapons and help… said it before. Fix the OL so we can protect him.  It is time for a 1.1 pick in his 4th season, third year in the same offense, to elevate the players we have given him. You can’t keep up the level of investment dedicated to propping him up, you have to prop up the defense too and get some balance.
    • Yeah, just got back to the house from doing some actual work, hopefully they create some better chances in the second half. 3-1 looks tough for you
