UPDATING BREAKING NEWS: Otah on IR, Panthers sign OL Pettiti

OK, here's more on the news that the Panthers have put Jeff Otah on injured reserve.

He suffered a knee injury early in last Sunday's 20-10 loss at New England and played for much of the game before leaving with a sore shoulder late.

However, the knee injury turned out to be significant, but is not a ligament tear, according to general manager Marty Hurney.

Otah is expected to have surgery and to be ready for the Panthers' offseason minicamp, OTA, etc.

Well at least Gross and Otah going down will give our inexperienced depth on the OLine some experience for next season. Who knows we may be more competitive down the stretch and that experience will be invaluable.

At least it appears nothing serious and nothing that is likely to cause a weakness for future injuries.

yeah....that franchise tag on pep....awesome idea.

OL depth was going to be bad anyway cause hangman and omiyale were most likely going to be taking starting jobs somewhere but still that left us with really crappy choices at OL depth.

another major fail for the panthers FO.

    • It’s going to get wild after this Sunday.  I would assume Dave has a really smart plan.   Sorta like the AZ plan last year.    After a big turnover heavy  bad game Bryce normally reels it in.  Bryce will have one of his standard 60% for 200 days and the Bryce defenders will use that as a “ I told you he is good” games.
    • Bryce is a really smart kid and I'm sure he knows all the answers to the test but he hasn't been able to overcome his lack of physical tools and other DC's know this and play him accordingly. I think Bryce has good processing but when the correct read is the WR 30 to 40 yards down field and you have a defensive lineman coming at you what can he really do? He just doesn't have the arm to effectively and consistently hurt the defense and I think that's what's gonna do him in.  Pime example look at the INT versus Dallas last year when Thelien was wide open down the seam and Bryce threw it from a clean pocket and the ball was way short. Dc's watched that and knew that Bryce can't throw the ball deep.
    • I'd give Bryce until the trade deadline to prove he's the answer and if he's not I'm dumping him for whatever pick we can get and I'm riding with Dalton the rest of the way.  2 and a half years is enough time to determine if he can be the QB going forward so for Bryce he needs to come out over the next couple of weeks and show that. The other players in the locker room don't wanna waste another year of their careers waiting to see if you'll ever figure it out.  If you took a poll of the players in the locker room I'm sure they'd rather lose with a respected veteran Dalton who at least gives them some creditability versus losing with Bryce who the entire media will say was let down by his supporting cast when in reality it's Bryce's physical limitations that are holding this team back.
