Well, John Fox looks like a idiot now...

That article makes it sound like Davis basically gave the job to Foster rather than Fox making the call. It was obvious that year Davis just wasn't right after the surgery and he still started the majority of the year.

Which is what Jake should have done long ago. He knows he sucks, and he knows his teammates respect the hell out of him, and he has his coach's undying trust. If Jake himself gave a poo about this team and our collective success - when he saw Fox wasn't willing to pull the plug, he should have pulled it himself. Nope, he's convinced that the next game will be the turning point.

It's over.

Correct, but the argument was Fox doesnt switch midway through the season. The article and Davis saying he's for foster was written after Foster started seeing the majority of carries. Fox already made the switch before Davis "passed the job to foster"

Dont mean to be picky, but if your going to say he never did it before...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2252768

In 2005 Fox did midway through the season switch from Davis to Foster after it was apparent Davis wasnt the same.

injury was the root cause of that change. Davis was hurt in 04 and was trying to play through knee injuries in 05 when the move was made to Foster. That is the only scenario Fox will alter anything.....and Davis was hurt in both 04(IR) and 05....

Its not like Davis was injured and then switched, he was hurt but not severe enough for him not to play as the starter for half the season, even after he was switched to Foster he was still playing small carries. Foster simply had better production, small injuries or not, Davis wasnt the man he was before.

like I said though, the root cause of the change was still injury. Davis was on IR in 04 and was on the injury report all of 05 trying to play through knee injuries....his body simply wasn't holding up....so Fox gave Foster the carries.

Another instance

Rod Gardner was cut during the season and then replaced by activating Drew Carter.

Although you could argue Gardner wasnt the starter, so not as big.

it isn't about arguing it....he wasn't a starter. He was deep on the WR depth chart....he was a Dwyane Jarrett....someone they had hope could move up. See this Gardner reach just explains how absurd Fox's flaw is. In all his years in Carolina.....he has never once replaced anyone of his starters purely to get better production. He will make a move if injury forces it........Fox has been here TOO LONG for that never to of occured. That is his biggest flaw. It isn't that he prefers vets over rookies....once he commits to a a starter he simply will ride them out until the end of a season. That ain't coaching but simply being stubborn and refusing to adapt.

Did anybody notice Fox didn't get excited and kinda looked irritated when Matt Moore threw that first TD pass to Smitty? Does that tell you something? I just think Fox dislikes Matt Moore immensely.

If Winfield had not fell, that had INT all over it. It worked out but the decision to throw that was what has kept Jake in trouble this year.

He probably looks irritated because he stuck with ineffective Jake for so long and Moore is showing Richardson how much of an idiot Fox is. (Which could lead to his firing)

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
