What the Panthers fanbase needs...

As much as I hate the "Fly Eagles Fly" and "E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES EAGLES EAGLES" crap.....that's the kind of passion the Charlotte fanbase needs.

Mock me for saying it -- I expect it, actually -- but I *like* the original Panthers Fight Song (stand and cheer...). Sure, its not on part with the old team fight songs you hear at Lambeau or Soldier Field, etc... but at least it was ours, it was unique, and it wasn't that damn Gary Glitter song that every other stadium seems to play because they think it's cool to do so.

Agreed that we need a cool sounding crowd chant ("J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS" is another example). C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS just doesn't have a threatening tone to it.

Remember year one at Clemson when it seemed like Panthers games were going to be quiet affairs for the cocktail crowd, and they had to publish a guide on how to cheer for a pro team? ("be quiet when the team is on offense", etc).

But I digress. The point is that we need to come up with something unique that isn't heard at any other stadium (even if you think "stand and cheer" is cheesy, you've gotta admit that hearing it after a super bowl win will sound mighty nice).

The Eagles have been around since 1933...1933!!!

The Panthers have been around since 1995...1995!!!

even so, I woulda expected more enthusiasm for a new team...Charlotte never having pro football before, and the NFL being the most popular sport everywhere but in the heart of NASCAR country, I woulda thought people would be licking their chops to support the team.

Also...the Eagles have had A LOT of down years (just ask JR)...and the fans still support them the same.

But I digress. The point is that we need to come up with something unique that isn't heard at any other stadium...

My point exactly! No arguement from me on that. Instead of copying stuff from other teams (regardless of sport), get something unique.

Passion isn't something you can create with a song. Passion is something that you build on with time.

When you mention the passion of Eagles fans, for instance, a lot of it has to do with the fact that the Eagles have called Philly home since 1933! You have great grandfathers who cheered for Norm Van Brocklin and fathers who call Ron Jaworski a living legend! haha It's more than passion, it's tradition and it's something that only time can only create.

I'm also one who believes that support is best build through tough times, more than good times. Anybody can root for a winner. Being a Browns fan. A Lions fan. That takes a lot to show up every Sunday and still give a damn.

BUT I will say --- our attendence was impressive this season.

BUT again --- tradition, it takes time. The same with the Redskins (in the NFL since 1932!!) and the Cowboys (since 1960). I can go on and on but Carolina is really the new team on the block and will be for awhile.

I just hope the stadium is rocking next Saturday!!! I went the Cowboys/Panthers game back in '96 and we got loud... so I know we can do it!!! :D I'm going to try and get tickets the game.

Stand and cheer for the Panthers,

Stand and cheer for the team.

Nothing could be finer,

than to be in Carolina,

for a Panthers football game!!!

The bitch of it is that the only decent MP3 that you can find online of the song cuts out with 10 seconds or so to go. Bastards.

I do like that you can tell who the "real" Panthers fans are because they're the ones who have an opinion as to whether they like the song or not. The bandwagon fans have no idea what you're talking about.

With success and longivity more fans will jump on the wagon, that why it's so important that we do get a Lombardi Trophy. I Love the Panthers I want to see more love for my team, eventually I will...........

GO PANTHERS!!!

Exactly...this franchise is only 14 years old; teams such as the Bears, Eagles,Packers, etc. have had generations pulling for them....it'll take time and a Super Bowl win (or two) to get a more solid fan base.

A great fight song would not hurt, the one that we have now is not that good(compared to others), I wish I was a song writter, I would send it to the Front Office, handout flyers at games with the lyrics on them, put the sh*t on you tube, etc, etc. I predict that somebody in the future will come up with something better than what we have now, but winning games is ultimately more important than fight songs...

GO PANTHERS!!!

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
