Came up just short

BUT A CHANCE AT HISTORY IS DENIED by Smith's injury, because he sits just 18 yards short of 1,000 for the season. The Panthers could have become the first team in NFL history to feature two 1,000-yard rushers and a 1,000-yard receiver; as it stands, Smith's 982 yards are the most ever by a receiver on a team with multiple 1,000-yard runners.

Smith would have almost certainly broken 1,000 yards were it not for the injury; he averaged 4.8 catches and 94.5 yards per game in December after averaging 4.2 receptions and 54.9 yards per game in the season's first 11 games.

This sucks. I wish he could have got it, for his sake. Still is a record none the less, just not at the 1,000 yard mark.

Agreed. The turnovers doomed us in the first half of the year and the defense took some time to develop. The fact that we have gone from a -14 to a plus 3 in turnovers and have put up points when we got the turnovers. That has gone a long way to getting us back to .500 in the win column by beating some good teams. Without a doubt the Giants game was our most complete and dominating performance this year.

    • It's crazy with how much winning was going on when we had a little cool off period that we're still just a couple games out of 6th. Moussa is getting better every week and Coby is getting comfortable. Would be nice to get to 6 but I think this team is a lot more stacked than the last couple play ins. I can't remember the exact rules but if you're 7th seed and win the first game I think you automatically move on and don't have to play the second game?
    • I think it was a thing for sure. Panthers weren’t too many people’s first choice. Or 5th choice.  2022 and 2023… coaches fired mid season. Consecutive years. You want any of that?  He has definitely overseen a rehab of how the Panthers are perceived. Because we are a place that is seen as up and coming. And just the little thing of he accommodated Theilen so graciously, that gets noticed. It all adds up. Dan is doing a lot of things right, probably most things.  Needs a good draft.
    • K, I think that is dumb, but you do you. I didn't find anything online that made him out to be a dislikable person. I am certain the Panthers would have cared so much if they lost your fandom if they hired Sean Payton. But bet you would have come crawling back if Sean lead us to a Super Bowl victory or Golden leads UNC to a champion ship. It is easy to say you are gonna leave a team if the hire someone you dislike when the chips are down. But people like you tend to come crawling back once the team finds success.
