Bring in Troy Smith

I don't think Matt Moore is a long term answer. Troy Smith wants out of Baltimore according to his agent. ..... Ravens QB Troy Smith, Ohio State alum, native + Heisman winner wants playing time. Ravens notified. Will seek trade after playoffs, SB run. 9:56 AM Dec 28th. Click here: Twitter / Ralph Cindrich: Ravens QB Troy Smith, Ohio ..... Played great at Ohio State and if given a chance, I bet he steps up in pros.

With the QB troubles Baltimore has had, if he were any kind of QB, he'd have had the job before Flacco got there (and the Ravens may not have even bothered to draft Flacco at all).

He never really got a chance with Billick, and when Harbaugh came in he didn't really know exactly what sort of talent he had until training camp that year. So Harbaugh went after Flacco in the first and Troy Smith had the starting job by the second preseason game, but lost it after getting hurt. The problem then became that once their first round pick was forced into playing there was no way they could realistically pull him without setting him back. The Ravens have been stuck with Flacco (not saying that's a bad thing) ever since and now Troy Smith knows that there's really nothing he can do to advance short of Flacco getting hurt and Smith playing like Peyton Manning.

And if we do bring him in like some are suggesting, and Moore still outplays him... that puts him right back in the same scenario he's in now. How long would it be before he started demanding a trade again?

Which is why I can`t see him wanting to join the Panthers next season. There are a number of teams where he could be guaranteed a starting spot. This isn`t one of them.

Us being interested in him? Possible.

His being interested in us? Unlikely.

I still think he'd be playing if he had any real talent at QB....didn't he also go way down in the draft? I know sometimes you get jewels in the rough, but when the entire league thinks that little of you, especially after winning the Heisman, it kinda means something.

Matt Schaub. ;)

The thing is that he fell because he's somewhat short for an NFL QB, and because Flacco was taken in the first there was a lot of pressure on Harbaugh to play Flacco anyways. I forgot to mention that he did eventually win the starting job back in 07, but unfortunately that wasn't until week 16. He was basically treated much in the same way Matt Moore was.

Tom Brady

Our own Matt Moore went undrafted.

I'm holding out hope that we will tender Moore and get some compensation for him and go out and get Smith and a few other FA/Draft Picks. Moore has looked great but I'm always drawn back to the D. Anderson and they were in very similar situations (cut by there original team and started and succeeded for the next). He had one good year and everyone thought he was the greatest QB ever, now what do you think.

For a reasonable late round pick Smith would be well worth it. I'm thinking they will be after a 5th (4th at most) for him and what QB in the draft has looked anywhere as Good as Smith in college and with him you have seen him against NFL competition. He played very well the past two off-seasons/preseasons.

Just think how good Smith could be in this offense. In those bootlegs that Matt has succeeded in (even has missed wide open receivers) think how awesome Smith would be as IMHO he is one of the best in the league throwing on the run. I would love to see if nothing else as a backup but as others have said I don't think he would be content with that. I think we all know how truly BS Fox's open competitions are and I would say Smith has realized that he will not get a fair shot here.
