Bring in Troy Smith

I suspect Moore will get a high tender (probably second round) which I seriously doubt anyone else will give up for him.

Agree or not, there's definite evidence that the Panthers are warming - if not already ready - to go into next season with Moore oenciled in at the top of the depth chart.

If so, I severely doubt Smith will be interested in coming to Charlotte.

I don't think Matt Moore is a long term answer. Troy Smith wants out of Baltimore according to his agent. ..... Ravens QB Troy Smith, Ohio State alum, native + Heisman winner wants playing time. Ravens notified. Will seek trade after playoffs, SB run. 9:56 AM Dec 28th. Click here: Twitter / Ralph Cindrich: Ravens QB Troy Smith, Ohio ..... Played great at Ohio State and if given a chance, I bet he steps up in pros.

Maybe u should send KT a PM.

No thanks to Smith. Not to say he wouldn't do well here, I think he could actually be pretty good. As stated, he will want to be paid like a starter and we have Moore who already knows the offense. My question for the people wanting to have a vet for competitions sake: who out there would be a legitimate option? Looking over the FA list no one really stands out, Vick would be intriguing, don't think it happens though.

Sure doesn't everyone. Doesn't mean he will. He will most likely be tendered level 4 (his original Drafted round) which will be 1.01 million (we payed 700,000 for Feely this year). Isn't exactly a huge salary.

You bring him in and give him a chance to start if he doesn't end up working your only out a 5th. I think Smith is one of the most talented QB's available this offseason and is easily worth a 5th.

We do not need Smith, He would need time to learn the playbook and he doesnt have alot of starting experience, and as proven just because a quarterback does good in college doesnt mean he'll be a great or even good nfl quarterback. Moore will have competition in training camp... Delhomme and possibly McCown, and the other will be a draft pick

If Troy Smith is so good, why is he a backup? Heck, Flacco is only in his second year! It's like these calls for Jason Campbell! I mean, WHY? What do these guys, who haven't done anything yet, bring to us? Vick is exciting, but he's ordinary, at best, as a passer, and teams, including us, have shown that if you make him PASS, he can't beat you. He has a rifle for an arm, but if you can't hit what you're shooting at, that rifle ain't much good. This is a passing league. If running QBs were so successful, some, or at least ONE, of them would have a SB ring. Yet none do. 'Nough said 'bout that!

Put Moore at the top of the depth chart next season, and let Jake and McKown fight it ut for the #2 spot. Both Jake and McKown will be coming off injuries by then. Lets solidify our starting QB situation by naming Moore the starter. Forget all this talk about these people who haven't done squat yet as being 'the answer' here. It doesn't make sense..

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
