Fox leaves, does Jake follow?

The way I am looking at it is, extending Delhomme was a must because they had to free up cap room. So given the circumstance, I think it was a pretty saavy move by Hurney, in that respect. Sure it would have been great to let Delhomme's contract expire, but I don't think that was really an option with our cap situation last year.

Free up a couple million one year on the salary cap at a cost JR 13 million he following year. I see what you mean savvy move. It doesn't matter that cutting Jake doesn't effect the salary cap to JR hes out that money no matter what.

Hurney was essentially gambling with JRs money and it didn't turn out the best way possible, but Hurney did give himself an out which is important in hindsight. However, it is an expensive out. Delhomme had a very good agent, that's for sure.

All I know is if I was JR and my GM had lost me 20 million dollars on a QB coming off his worst game of his career at the worst possible time, I would fire him. But thats just me.

I'm sorry, but that extension wasn't needed at the expense that it costs us now. We only saved 3 mil and Jake was coming off the worse game of his career with only 1 year left. That extension was mostly on the belief of Hurney and Fox that Jake was a franchise QB and their relationship.

I think if Fox leaves, Jake will be gone either way.

I completely agree with you. It was definately a horrible move especially after the game Delhomme had. Hurney was looking at the previous season as a whole, and Delhomme did some great things for us last year. It was a gamble that didn't pay off.

Remember when they gave Jake this deal they were expecting him to be a serviceable QB for a couple of years. And why not think this. Like always hindsight is 20/20 and now the deal looks like a bad move. If Jake had played to old form we would probably be in the playoffs and his new contract would have looked like a great deal.

    • After watching Dan for 3 yrs now, I think I understand his plan. It’s a simple plan that should work for the long run.     I saw some of this last yr. Dan wants a vet and a young player at each position. I really think we go OT if one they like there. Moton is aging, Icky will not be back until 27, if ever. We need to get ahead of the tackle problem
    • You are just stressing too much about these particular positions. You want to upgrade from Bryce and I understand that but you aren’t going to really get that without getting into a bidding war for a QB2 potential QB1 like Willis. You could possibly trade for Mills or the backup for Chicago but they are still gambles and their teams will won’t decent picks.  Again the Eagles thought KP was a capable enough backup to trade for him once their backup was hurt and won a Super Bowl with him as QB2. The point is most teams aren’t rolling with some stud QB2/3 that is going to push even a bottom tier starter. They are better off the building their roster in other areas. The Rams are rolling with Bennett right now as QB2 for example.  The goal is winning absolutely. We overachieved last year even with stumbling into the playoffs. Another year and this staff needs to take the next step in building a team. Will Grier has little to no impact on that….
    • Three straight first round WRs is straight up Matt Millen poo. Considering the draft capital we have tied up on Bryce after that trade we would basically have spent damn near all of our draft capital in recent years on QB and WR just to put one of the most anemic passing offenses in the league on the field. Clown show poo.
