Close Look at Panthers 2010 Schedule

Here's a look at the Panthers' 2010 opponents. They'll play teams from the NFC West and AFC North, as well as teams who finish in their corresponding spots in the standings from the NFC East and NFC North.

The Panthers could finish second in the NFC South with a victory Sunday against New Orleans and an Atlanta loss at Tampa Bay. Carolina and Atlanta (who split their games against each other) would both be 8-8, but the Panthers would have better divisional and conference records than the Falcons.

*A second-place NFC South finish would give the Panthers a home game against either Green Bay or Minnesota (NFC North) and a road game against either Philadelphia or Dallas (NFC East).

*A third-place finish gives them a home game against Chicago and a road game against the New York Giants. It would be the third straight season the Panthers will play on the road against the Giants, although this time the game would at least be in their new stadium.

The schedule will be released this summer. -- David Scott

This happens because you rotate which division you play in the NFC and AFC. Typically the NFC West has been the weakest and the NFC East has been the strongest (with the North in the middle).

I saw this before and it is actually INCORRECT. If the schedule rotation holds true to form, then the Panthers will play AT San Fran and be home versus St. Louis. (Other than that it is correct). In 2007, the Panthers were at STL and home against SF, so it would reverse in 2010.

Officially the NFL has not said that this will be the schedule, everyone is just assuming that this will be the case. The NFL has held off because of CBA negotiations and wanted to expand the number of games.

It is a mediocre schedule, the Panthers should not have any trouble making the playoffs next year. This is how I see the schedule...

Difficult Games- Bengals, Ravens, Saints, Steelers

Easy Games- Falcons, Cardinals

If you don't win you suck big one's- Buccaneers, Browns, Seahawks, Rams, 49ers

If we were to make no changes to our current roster, we'd go either 10-6 or 11-5 against that very easy schedule. That should be good enough for the playoffs and an exciting playoff run that will end with us not winning a Super Bowl. That will then lead to a disappointing 2011 season where we'll be 4-8 and eliminated from the playoffs where we'll then win our final four games to finish 8-8. Yet again, people will want John Fox to stick around because of how great we'll look in December 2011.

We will go 5-3 at home at the worst and probably 6-2 or 7-1. On the road we have Tampa, Seattle, STL, Cleveland so that should be 9 wins guaranteed. Anything less then 10 wins would be disappointing with this schedule.
