Cushing was a runaway winner in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. Cushing received 39 votes Tuesday, easily beating Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd, who had six, and becoming the second Texans linebacker in four seasons to win the award. DeMeco Ryans took it in 2006.

He is a beast.

134 Tackles, 5 Sacks, 4 Interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

That is a great rookie season right there.

as an OLB too. It's common to see MLB/ILBs get that many tackles, but for an OLB it's outstanding. ESPECIALLY since he has DeMeco Ryans next to him. Guy is an absolute monster.

But....Captain!

Captain was great for a seventh rounder that became our Nickle, and occasional #2 but he just can't touch Cushing's numbers and impact.

edit:

If Captain had had oh six or seven picks and a forced fumble or two he would've been in the competition.

Didn't we have this irrelevant discussion about his "bitch tits" months ago? Brian Cushing is the defensive rookie of the year. Don't forget that one of our own players was suspended for something that causes "bitch tits" during his rookie campaign.
