Matt Moore = 1st Rd Qualifying Offer

Waiting to see how he plays next year and trading him away for picks are two very different things. I'd venture to say that most of the people who want to keep Moore here -- myself included -- are not ready to sign him to a long-term contract just yet. We'll wait until he bombs his first playoff game to do that.

Go back and see if I ever said I agree to trade him away for a draft pick, if you'd read all of my comments you'd notice the first one say I agree he did good and deserves a shot for the starting job in camp next year, just dont see how everyones sold him... so get your facts straight before you call someone out.

is it really this hard to use the quote feature?

wk 1 Matt was 6/11 for 63 yds and an int. the guy had not been getting starter snaps in camp. he had little to no chemistry with even the center let alone the rest of the team. i think he did farely well given the circumstance.

Yeah and didnt show much promise in that game as far a the quarterback of the future.

Jake came in after the half down by 17

Moore was the 3rd QB and came in during the 4th down by 21

I don't know how hard it is to realize that two scenarios are not the same.

Moore came in when a game was in fact OVER. He was playing with a bunch of guys mentally done for the day. Moore looked in 09 just like the guy in 07 when given a start.

Thats all in your opinion... for all we know the guys Delhomme was playing with were mentally done and because he has such great leadership he turned them around. I like matt moore, i have nothing against him never said i wanted him to go, I dont think he's worth a first rounder, and I said he derserves a shot at the starting job. Doing good the last five games of the season just doesnt sell him on him, two of the teams had the playoffs locked up, and i know favre stayed in the whole game. But that vikings team and a team at the begining of the season would play at two differnt levels.

Matt's a gamer. I'm not saying he's the end all for our QB options, but he certainly needs to be retained for the shot. Try and draft another if the timing is right draftwise to hedge in case Delhomme's time is running out as it appears it might be, but keep Moore in the fold, he's a gamer...

Who let you in? :sosp:

(hey Mint; long time no see) :)

Not calling you out, I just thought your comments might have had something to do with trading Matt away for picks, which is the topic at hand. Or at least it was, until we all started arguing with each other.

My belief is that Moore will get the second round tender. I know a lot of folks will be upset if that happens, but honestly it's reasonable. If it's the first round offer, I won't complain. I just don't think that's what it'll be.

Everything I've read indicates he's got no intention of looking elsewhere and I seriously doubt the Panthers are looking at trading him (nor should they).

sorry, there is simply a difference between being down 17 at halftime and being down 21 into the 4th quarter. It is called time. Moore is 6-2 as a starter.....only one of those 8 teams had a losing record. He should compete for the job next year with someone not named Jake.

Seeding still wasn't set at wk 15, and the viking still had a shot at #1. please DON"T try again.

Yeah, I know it, I'm going to say I know the draft is where you get the talent from but to be honest I'd rather have a proven vet back there rather than going after an unproven rookie, cause you have the risk of getting a bust. Thats why i'm not mad we dont have a first rounder this year because you find a dimond in rough in later rounder for cheaper. My point was in my opinion he's not worth a first rounder, because we havent even seen him in a full season... all we have seen is a few games and are going on some promision stats. The original poster was comparing his december stats to that of peyton manning which is inacurate because Peyton sorta had half of december off. Dont get me wrong I like Moore, and I hope he is the answer and as of now judging from what I saw towards the end of the season, he's our best choice at QB position. But I have my doubts, because of my lack of opportunity of seeing in more games.

They were in the playoff, they knew it, yeah i'm sure they would have loved to be the #1 seed but they knew they were getting there. You dont think the teams were playing harder at the start of the season? With the playoffs not even in sight?

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
